Equipment. New Alpine CDA-105, Used SAZ-1500D, New RE Audio SEx D2 12" New 1/0 Power wire, New RCA, New RE XT800, Boston Acoustics mid and Highs front and rear.

Problem. After several min. of playing the sub will fade out (still has some movement like its on low volume) but the other amp will still play with no problem. No fading out there! The SAZ doesnt go into protection, just fades out. Voltage at the amp is a constant 13.5volts. You can turn the radio off let for a few min. and then back on and sometimes the sub plays and sometimes it doesnt. Something has a mind of its own here. I do need to upgrade the speaker wire to the sub but that shouldnt be causing the problem. The person we got the amps from had them strapped and I was wondering if that would make a differance.

When it is working it perorms very well we got 1st place with a 139.7 running only the one 12" sub and SAZ-1500D wired at 1 ohm and 2nd place in super port wars with a 155.6. Class was Run what you brung 1001-3000 watt class.

Could the amp be going bad or do we need a more constant voltage. I know the Sundown amps are current hogs and the lowest it drops to is around 12.7 12.8 when its hitting hard for several mins.

Any help will be welcome.

Not sure where you got that info ....

first thing i would do is try the rca's from the other amp...

also its possible the sub out on the head unit is going bad

amp could also have a issue

do some basic troubleshooting =process of elemination works great

It seems like your voltage is fine, sundown amps, I believe don't go into protect until nine volts. I think it's your RCA cable (maybe switch them out or try someone elses), or you preouts on your deck took a shit on you.

Its a NEW RADIO. Just bought it Saturday before the comp.

Use known good equipment to trouble shoot problems like another hu, cables, amp and anything else you might think is causing the problem and you'll soon find the answer.

Last night my buddy went home and he was talking to another person and he said it might be the battery. so he load tested it and almost failed. right at the border line. So we are looking fo two good matching batteries. possible yellow top stingers.

First of all, sorry for the Necro-posting in an old thread, but I was hoping I could find some follow up on this topic or from anyone else that has experienced this same situation.

I am having a problem that sounds extremely similar to the one in this thread, except that my equipment is all pretty dated. Here is some info about what is going on...

I am running the following system in my 1997 Pontiac Trans Am WS.6:

-Kenwood Excelon KDC-869 Head Unit

-Phoenix Gold Titanium 500.4 amp powering Boston Acoustic components and Eclipse Point Source coax speakers

-Phoenix Gold RSD 1200.1 amp powering my sub-woofer

-Phoenix Gold Ti12D Titanium Elite 12" high excursion sub-woofer

-2 Optima Yellow Top batteries, one in the engine bay and one in the rear hatch seperated by a PAC-200 Relay/Isolator

The PG RSD amp is about 3 years old while the rest of my system components are ~10 years old. The car gets winterized and stored away during the Chicago winters and for the past ~20 months it has been in storage. When I took the car out of storage the system worked great for about a week. Then I would have the low end frequencies fade out and my sub would play at about 30% volume at random. It would intermittently fade back in and out again.

-I have tried CDs, Aux inputs, and FM tuner which all experience the same problem.

-I have checked all ground and power connections, cleaning and reattaching them off when appropriate.

-I have checked the power/charge on both batteries to be okay.

-I have checked the functionality of the Isolator and it is working properly.

-I have checked the power at the amp and both amps are drawing properly.

-I have tried different RCA cables from the head unit.

None of these have yielded any difference in this odd "fading low frequency" problem. My only other thoughts are that either my Head Unit or Sub Amp are starting to give up the ghost. I do not have another amp or head unit that I can swap into the system to test either of these two.

If anyone has any additional input or advice I would greatly appreciate it before I have to start spending money to replace parts that might not be broken.

Yes, I figure that maybe after 3 years there would be a solution to the previous problem... and if not, maybe someone else might have input to share since I am having a similar issue.
