Please help me Build a Desktop

Recommended Posts

so I have come to the conclusion that laptops are not reliable enough, nor important enough in my everyday life use. Looking to go desktop FTW!

so heres my budget, 550...not much i know...but whatever you guys think could get me a decent running desktop. I am going to use a 17 inch LCD monitor that came with my gateway for now, so no need to purchase that just yet.

Would LOVE at least 4 gigs of ram. I also want it to be wireless if possible. Looking to run Linux as well as windows 7 (dunno if thats important)...gaming isnt important to me, but watching movies is!

Thanks guys :)

Obviously desktops>laptops

But I'm usually on the go and the laptop wins there. And my laptop is much faster than our desktop.

Yeah it all looks fine, I think the antec 900 v2 is the same or lower price though

Same price case on Newegg:

I know quite a bit. Here I will give you links to some good parts. :) (newegg doesn't seem to have combo deals as of now)

Motherboard-

Processor-

Case-

Power Supply-

RAM-

Video Card-

Grand Total: $550.03 (with shipping) (Shipping was to my house. May differ from yours.)

Also, I would wait... Newegg usually has combo deals on the cpu/mobo which can save you $20+

And the RAM is EXPENSIVE!!! as of now too. I bought that same ram a few months ago for $65 and about 2 months ago I seen it for $45 so I would wait if I were you to upgrade. Something is up with newegg... :\ They are usually cheaper. But the links I posted are good, but you can save if you wait... IDK how long though.

Sign up for their email newsletter. You get deals in your email and promo codes which are like coupon codes for certain items they have to offer. :)

The GPU needs 450 watts which is the same of the PSU you listed. He will need more head room to power everything else too without problems. :)
