Thewes
No one OEM's softparts that small to handle a motor that big. It would cost a fortune to machine the equipment that would be able to make the new top assemblies. I don't even know what what kind of spiders you could use on a 8'' basket, that would probably have to be fabricated also.
spl audio1
i could make a tribute to the late frankenwoofer with a lvl5 motor and fab some 8 to work until i say f%$k it and buy the d$%m lvl5 10 for my wifes daily on 3kw
zfrerichs
its been asked about in the past.i cant remember if it was rusty or jacob, but one of them said it was no possible due to coil size, spider landing/ spider size, and the cones arent big enough to handle that amount of power. im sure it can be done, but the spiders wont last long. the spiders is where i see the problem. they would have to be very small and wouldnt allow for enough travel. as soon as they see good power they will be torn apart. to make it work youd have to tool a new basket with a wider spider landing than the cutout of the top. it be very expensive but in some cases may be worth it but not for daily Quote Roseville, CA
IH8PunkRok
you gys are thinkin too conventional about this you dont need a bigger spider you need a new material. think about a rubber band and ow much it can move from its original size. a stiffer stronger material that has similar properties should be utilized a material which can actually expand. anything is possible if you think hard enough on it. some things just require insane amounts of thinking that people dont want to do. things like time travel for instance Quote -Matt2005 Dodge Magnum RTJVC KD-AVX1 2 PPI S580.2 Obsidian Audio ST1 Horn Tweeters PRV 8MB450s Audio Legion 3500.1D 2 RE MT 18s 360 ah LiFePO4 BatterySHCA 2/0 155.2 @ 29 hzKicker CVR 15's buildDD 3512e buildMini T-Line Build(6) 8s BuildNightshade 15s Wall BuildMagnum AB XFL 12s BuildNewest Magnum Build
spl audio1
i really appreciate everyones comments and all aspects lol however i have not heard from rusty and thats what makes me think hes got something up his sleeve just like the lvl5 10 but once again this is an idea that my team and i thought would be differant being we saw a guy doing 150 with 2 8s and thorshammer is up over 152 with 2 10s as far as motor size maybe shaving the diameter down and making the mag slugs thicker hell i dont know where these ideas come from but like someone said earlier this thread a 8 with a 4" coil would be insane and im concerned with spiders and surrounds like every one else said but hey ide be excited to see a lvl3 or lvl4 8 and i know they are more realistic

sound xtreme
a 8" sub with a 3" isn't likely to happen. The spider size would make it mechanically impossible. with a 3" coil, i believe the biggest spider that you get for a 8" basket is 6". this would leave you with only 1.5" to roll minus the 3/8" glue lip bringing it to a whopping 1 1/8" to roll. Even if you spent all the money to tool a new spider (which would be very cost prohibitive) the most you could get would be maybe 1.25" excursion P-P, and at that point why bother when there are already 8's that do that. And as far as a cone is concerned, a 8" cone would also have to be tooled for this. it would need a very tall surround (which would be inefficient) and the cone area would be so small. But if someone has 10-12 thousand to spend, I'm sure Rusty or Jacob would go ahead and get you the sub. but it would be a shop piece for customer to oogle over Quote 1997 Astro front:6 sets of T3 componets Subs: 8 level 5 18"s (building 6th order BP) Amps: 4 really big ones (totalling just shy of 50K) Batts: Alt: Ohio Generator 1996 Chevy Suburban Sub amp: A fifth really big amp Subwoofer: 2-15" DC Level 4 XL Batts: C&D high rate--(x4)
spl audio1
i get the point but how much power can we shove through a 2.5" voice coil ? really could even get a lvl 2 8 going . see the initial reson for this topic was whats the biggest baddest most insane 8 now i really cant wait for the lvl12 12 lol

And I doubt a car audio company is going to revolutionize loudspeakers suspension systems for the sole fact of a 8 inch high performance spl subwoofer, no disrespect, just saying.
