I saw this video a year ago. Very cool if you havent see what lurks at the center of the Milky Way. The speeds those stars are moving are amazing.

little italy is correct. if a black hole were created it would only have the mass of that grain of salt. how much stuff do you see being pulled into a grain of salt? it would dissapear

the danger of a black hole in comparison to the star it used to be, is that the black hole is a single point.

Imagine with me, if you will, a bowling ball on a sheet. the bend in the sheet represents the gravity that star is creating.

Now imagine a marble that weighs the same as the bowling ball, the bend in the sheet will be much steeper. now this means an object needs to be a lot closer to the black hole but it will indefinately be sucked in due to the sharp angle in the sheet. however with the bowling ball (star) if the object is moving fast enough it can escape the shallow angle created by the ball.

In conclusion the gravity from a black hole is more dangerous because it will indefinately suck up anything close to it. then it will gain mass and become stronger.

however one must not worry about this because the space between galaxies is so immense that the black hole cannot reach the next galaxy.

theory is my favorite thing to think about. im reading "The Theory of Everything" by Hawking right now. real good read.

yeas, at the center of almost every galaxy is a supermassive blackhole.

Its how Galaxies are formed.

After the Big Bang, there was gas and matter spread all over the universe.

Then in spots where these gasses clustered, they combines to form stars, all in one very close proximity to eachother.

Then the oldest stars went through their life cycle and became black holes.

Since they were all close to eachother and close to other stars, they all collided to form a supermassive blackhole.

This combined gravity trapped all other stars in its grasp to form a galaxy.

We are on an outer arm of the milky way, but one day will be sucked into the center of our galaxy. (the earth will be gone by then). It can take bollions of billions of years to reach the center.

When stars get close, they speed up almost to the speed of light before they collide.

So we can detect these by tracking the speed of the stars orbit in proximity to the black hole.

The faster a star's orbit, the closer it is to a black hole.

Furthermore, since matter clusters on the edge of a blackhole, new stars are born as the matter orbits the edge of a blackhole,

So stars are born right before they get sucked in.

The recently constructed LHC in Europe was supposed to have the potential of creating mini-black holes, but these would evaporate almost as soon as they were created. [because of the limited mass]

How About Hawkin's theory that all the matter sucked into a black hole will simply disappear?

Afterall, that goes against one of the fundamenal laws of physics that matter and energy can never be created nor destroyed, they can only change form.

So for 30 years his theory had no answer to that. And now the theory is that all of that matter and energy are taken to another universe.

If there are an infinite number of universe's, then its very likely that some of those universes wont have a such thing as a black hole.

So the matter and energy that disappears with the evaporating black holes would appear in that universe that has no black hole.

Maybe they have an opposite of a black hole, a white hole if you will, in which all matter and energy come from.

Sort of a "Big Bang" of matter and energy.

This is sort of the theory of where our universe could have come from.

I am skeptical on most multi-verse theories, especially Brane Theory.

Its just hard to comprehend something outside of our own space and time, and the explainations and theories are all very lacking and show our ignorance into this subject.

I know our universe has been measured. Basically it can only be as large as time would allow all of the light to travel since the big bang.

So if the Big bang happened 14 Billion years ago, the universe can only be as large as a sphere with a radius of 14 billion light years.

What is on the outside of that sphere?

I like the theory that there are many many spheres and each is a universe. Thats easy to understand.

I also think that those spheres can collide and interweave eachother.
