audiofanaticz
What kind of distributor cap did you buy? Theres a major problem with chevys not liking the cheap autozone or advance auto distributor caps such as wells, duralast etc. It has something to do with the cheaper metal used inside that conducts the spark, and the gap between the cheaper cap and rotor differs from the factory delco cap and rotor. Ive heard this from my buddies that had the same issues on a few of their trucks and a astro van with a 4.3v6. Ive had the same exact problems in my truck, and swapped it out with a cap/rotor to see if what I heard was right. Needless to say the cap/rotor i used I pulled outta my buddies junkyard from a 96 suburbin with 170k miles and what looked to be the origional plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Needless to say it fixed my problem and didnt miss unlike the Wells brand cap/rotor. The next day I went to gm to get a delco cap and rotor and replaced the junkyard parts and its been fine. A shitty cap will throw off timing a good bit and make your vehcile miss bad. Edit: I also want to add, that the miss I had only happened after I did the tune up. Using bosch wires, E3 sparkplugs that where around $7.00 a piece, and just a cheap wells brand cap/rotor. Problem was then gone after a factory gm parts where put back on. If it's a multi-electrode like the Bosch Platinum+2 or +4 it will missfire like a mofugga. The 4.3's do not run very well with anything other than a single electrode plug. speeddemon0308
seems pretty good to me. my buddy had a miss fire on his blazer and it turned out to just be dirty injectors. but i agree with the GM's not likign the fancy spark plugs.. we put in nice patlynum plugs with our new engine and it had a miss fire and we talked to some one and he said oh just run the AC delco plugs.. so we switched and it run much better! this is why i like carbed engines!! no injectors ro have to worry about.. you get spark and fuel and compression and shell fire up! no computer systems you have to rely on to run the engine

Its not all GMs that dont like the fancy plugs, Mostly the 4.3L's that seem to have problems I have E3 plugs in my tahoe 5.7vortex and not an issue, but the distributor caps and rotors are a HUGE problem. http://www.e3sparkplugs.com/ So id suggest trying a ac delco cap & rotor, and most likely it will fix his problems. Its a hell of a lot cheaper fix to try before spending big bucks having a mechanic tinker around.
speeddemon0308
this was on a 350 chevy so... but yeah if you did just the cap... go back and get a cap and rotor set, and make sure everythign is clean when you install it
cqtama
yea there platinum plugs. but thats not the promblem i had the factory ac delco plugs when the miss started. it ran better after changing out the plugs. and same thig to the cap. it was missing before i replaced it too Quote R.I.P '01 blazer you treated my ears well until your transmission blew up. John
well a bad or bent valve would not be random. Thats what I thought as well... I was getting randoms. I replaced cap, rotor, plugs and wires. Turns out I dropped a valve. Basically my truck sounds like it has a massive cam at idle and is very very slugish. Have a good mechanic check for this. It may be your problem boss. bombout800
could a bad valve seat be at fault. I know randomly they can fail. I dunno whether its from the valve itself or the seat just happened to go bad after some time. Quote 03 350Z
Blue
well since you figure that it is the number 4 cylinder givin you the problem there is something that you can do. Do you still have the old spark plugs? If you do great, if not, might want to get a cheapy of the procedure im gonna tell ya now. 1. Knock out all of the ceramic on the spark plug, leaving just the metal part with the threads. 2. Get an air connector for an air line and weld it on to the opposite side of where the spark plug threads are. 3. Put the cylinder to top dead center. Once in that position screw your home made leak down tester in. 4. listen for air leaks, if air is coming out of the intake, bad intake valve. Out of the exhaust, bad exhaust valve. If it is coming out of the oil filer, then you have bad rings. If you have no air leaking out, then have fun finding out wat it is lol.
