This is starting to scare me a little bit......Voltage Q

Recommended Posts

As of lately, the temp here in N.W Georgia is in the "TEENS" in the morning, and only reaching a high in the 30's, and we have atleast another 1-2 weeks of this (I love this weather VERY MUCH) but am getting a little scared (If you will) as my voltage is climbing higher and higher with this cold weather. Upon start up, my voltage hits 15.9, and settles at 15.6 / 15.7 after warm up and driving. Are my 3 AGM DEKA's going to be able to take this? or are they going to explode? I have 2 of these batts right behind me on my false floor, and am getting very scared here with these high voltages. The batts ARE NOT swelling, expanding, etc..... but DAMN! almost 16v steady on 12v batts just doesnt seem safe...... Here is a pic taken with my phone:

High 15v is constant is sketchy. You can pretty much consider you're charging 12v batteries with a 16v charge. If it gets any worse due to the cold I would suggest disconnecting your battery bank for the winter. Or until you're charging back to normal.

Actually how accurate is that voltage meter. Do you have a fluke you can use to see the true voltage?

thats what i was thinking.

that is a voltage GAUGE and it is adjustable.

it has a little knob under the case which can either raise or lower the sensitivity
