what would be the labor cost for installing a system on an suv

Recommended Posts

what would be a fair price to charge someone for installing a basic sound system on late 90's suv ... that includes running amp wiring kit nicely and tucked with possibly no wires insight besides were they meet with amp , organizing all the wiring , installing aftermarket headunit tuning headunit and tunning amp for subwoofers and that will be it so in shorter way ill be installing subs amp headunit with all the wiring .. any ideas on a fair labor price ?? thanks in advance my guess would be 65 to 80 bucks i know that at my local shop they charge close to double that

I did all my own and I have really never put a system in on request, but 65 - 80 dollars I would think is very low. Of the top of my head I was thinking $45.00 an hour because to do it right requires a lot of work.

Typical prices for a head unit would be $30 on the low end and $50 on the high end. Amps would be $40 on the low end and $80 on the high end. Every shop is different. My friend that works at a shop in Portland told me that the majority of their money comes from installs. He claims they don't make dick on straight up gear. Who knows if he's right because dude is generally full of shit.

I would charge any where from $90-150 depending on car, size of wire, and what not.

A rate of $35+ an hour is not uncommon.

Well labor is almost pure profit where as selling gear requires buying the gear first.

He is correct on that one.
