Please, I need the amp wiring gurus in here please RE:mids/highs......

Recommended Posts

Here is my issue, and I need some knowledge here to see what im doing wrong. First of all, I made a diagram to show you how my mids/highs amps and speakers are wired, so that should help me out, by "SHOWING" you! For months now, my mids and highs sounded amazing and NO CLIPPING (My RF X-overs have a built in light that lights up if you clip) my prior setup before I added my new comps were a set of 6.5" comps per door wired to 2ohm stereo with my q-logic kicks (All on the FRONT channel on my 4ch MTX AMP) sounded amazing.

I just installed my new 5 1/4's in my doors in my new dual pods that I have (So each door has 2 sets of comps, 1 set of 6.5's, and 1set of 5 1/4 all RF punches, and dont forget about my q-logic kicks with a 6.5 in them!. I never touched a setting on my mtx 4ch amp, nor did I mess with any of the wiring. The MTX amp has a output on it called "SUM OUT" so all I did was run a set of RCA's from that output, to the FRONT INPUT on my new blaupunkt 4ch, where I have my 5 1/4's plugged into, now I have clipping, and my x-overs (ONLY THE 5 1/4 THOUGH........ ONLY THEM!!!!! are clipping) and you can audibly here the 6.5's "LOWER" in sound as soon as I use the "SUM OUT" on the mtx amp. Something is happening, and I just dont know what? The output voltage on my panasonic deck is 2.5v, so what im thinking is that the preamp voltage is getting so low, that the signal is very weak, and clipping........ IDK :unknw: As soon as I unplug the "SUM OUT" set of RCA's going to the new blaupunkt amp, the front 6.5's come up in volume and it sounds fine, but obviously my 5 1/4's are no longer getting powered. Im thinking the SUM OUT output feature is what is holding me back, would maybe getting a few "Y" adapters (Which would let me bypass the SUM OUT output feature, maybe correct this? or maybe some sort of 6ch line driver? SOME PLEASE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!!! I have a ton of money wrapped up in my mids and highs, and really dont want to screw them up by clipping them, and I know my sound stage can sound crisp again, I just need to be told what i'm doing wrong, so I can correct this. Thanks to everyone that can help me.

WTF, I never thought I'd have a conversation about cross dressers and trans-genders on a car audio forum.

I'm guessing your output voltage got dropped with the second set of rca's so it's working harder.

Maybe.. Not positive though.

another thing to try is unplugging the rear speakers and run the front 5.25s on the mtx for now until u get a y splitter to try it out. The splitter may yield the same result, so a pre out booster may be needed.

 That diagram was great :D

I would look at a few things.

First off, you will see a drop in your rca voltage as you split them from amp to amp. Then I would look at avoiding the sum out option as you have a good chance of adding noise into the chain especially with mismatched amps.

If you use a y splitter then you will have reset your gains on the original amp.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

thanks for replying bro..... OK, I will eliminate the "SUM OUT" output, and y the RCAs, but why do you say I will have to RE-SET the gain on the "Original" amp (which is the MTX) Does somehow the gain setting on the MTX, effect the new blaupunkt? I get a little lost with this stuff..... Thanks

you have to reset the gains because u are now splitting the signal, making it not as strong as before. because it is being "split," technically yes this will effect the blaupunkt's settings too. But this is an easy fix. Just adjust the gains an walla.
