Diesels use a compression ratio much higher than a normal gasoline car, and in having this higher compression, are able to utilize it to combust the fuel, eliminating the spark plugs from the scenario, so there are no plugs there to get wet, and if he has a snorkel atachment he solves the getting water in the combustion chamber though the induction system, which allows him to do that.
