So im going to get a new alternator but im not sure what amp alt I will need. Im going to have two amps for my subs that both run at 1700 rms at 2 ohms and a 4 channel for my mids and highs that is 170 x 4 at 2 ohms. And i have 1 yellow top unnder the hood with the big three and i have 1/0 for everything. So I was thinking about a 260 amp alternator, will that be enough or should i get a 300 amp alt?

any reason not to get the biggest one?

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

in some cases the larger alternators will have a lower output idle.

Compare the idle output more than the max output, you will be surprised how much time you spend at lower RPM's

ya i just checked it out and it makes almost 30 more amps at idle, that is im atlkin about the 260 vs the 300. But do u think ill be fine with the 260 amp alt for the three amps i have?

I would personally rather have 30 more amps at idle than 40 at high rpm, that's just my opinion
