Second Skin Audio

BTL is a monster

Recommended Posts

If your clipping light is going off, your audio signal is clipping, either because the song is clipped or because your gains are too high. Clipping happens when you try to push too much power out of your amp. This diagram helps explain it:

fig1.gif

The wave on the left is a sine wave, which is what a clean signal looks like with a o-scope. The wave on the right is a clipped wave. The dotted line shows where the wave WOULD be if the amp was capable of putting out a wave that strong, but due to the RMS voltage, it limits the power output of the amp, meaning the crests of the waves are "clipped" off. This can be really bad for both your subs and amp. If your BTL isn't happy on the 2200d, clipping it won't make it any happier. I suggest upgrading your amp. Meade ran his BTL's on 2 2500's each IIRC, so you should be fine with an amp upgrade.

wtf is lolcats?

I'd def get a fat hooker if i had to resort to that kinda thing. I feel like they'd be grateful and work harder. Also its more bang for my buck, more real estate for my dollar if you catch my drift. its like the Costco of streetwalkers.

I was hoping for 150 :(.

I was hoping she would let me put it in her butt

clipping is were if u look at the waves on the oscope when the wave on top an bottom are completely flat is when ur clipping there might be other reasons an i just cant think of them right now but if u go on youtube steve made a vid on how to set ur amp with a oscope

i just watched steves vid. is there anything that man cant do?? haha but where can you pick up one of those at? i know the shop i work at doesnt have one. so i wanna buy one for me

but the enclosure steve had had alot to do with it being able to handle that much power..

you could easily blow that btl with that amp in the wrong enclosure.

i say you upgrade your electrical and keep the amp.. maybe play around with boxes.. it should be preety darn loud with that amp

No need to pay $400 until you get deep in this audio game and have tons of equipment. Then that $400 will become worth it to you and not be "poo". It will pay for itself over and over. But you def need to get rid of the clipping

exactly what i was going to say. if a sub is rated at 500 watts RMS, you dont need to put 1000 watts on it for it to perform properly. and if one or two people double their power, it's not necessary for everyone to for them to run properly on a daily basis.
