OrionStang
I need some help with checking theses numbers. I thought I know what im doing , but I got no reading at all on one coil and the other coil had the numbers jumping all over. Can someone help verify what setting Im supposed to use on my DMM. bassl0va
the one that measures ohms. it looks kinda like a O that has been split open at the bottom. touch the leads together, you should get like 0.4 or something real small. then touch it on the coil, you should get like 2.3 (for a 2 ohm coil) then minus off the lead resistance. ending up with 1.9 (dc ohmage, resistance, is normally a bit less than ac ohmage, impedance) My RE MT 18" wall build Former build, farewell beloved wall.In progress, Toyota Starlet build This forum has a massive boner for ridiculous electrical upgrades. OrionStang
Ok, I got that part, but my DMM has different ohm settings; 20, 200, 2000, etc. Do I use the smallest one? SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
Neo_frog
You should use the one closets to the numerical value of 1. Some of those DMMs are used to measure milliohms and centiohms. You are going to measure full ohms Need an install? Hit me up.[email protected]Got car audio questions? OrionStang
OK, I got it. One voice coil is right at one ohm(good). The other is giving no reading at all(bad), what does that mean, voice coil dead? SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
Neo_frog
Infinite means there is no connectivity. A 0 ohm reading means a possible short. Blank means a broken DMM. lol Need an install? Boon
Check your tinsels and terminals. Bad coils usually just read high or low, not so often that they read Open. 10.x volts fo' life!
