What would be louder?

Sorry if it's just another noob question, but I'm wonderin what would end up being louder:

1 15", 5,000w

Or

1 18", 2,000w

I know about the whole "more cone area" thing, but most of the time higher powered subs have more xmax, so yea, I'm pretty sure u know what I mean...

I put "most of the time" because I had some 12" kicker comps claiming 9.76mm xmax and a soundstorm 12" 1200w claiming 8.64mm xmax...

Id go with the 18 on 2K because its more cone and less power so it will sound just as good and you wont have to do so much electrical. Basically im sayin the 18 is cheaper and will most likely sound just as good if not louder. But for a definate answer what subs are you lookin at?

I personally would pobably go with the AQ HDC3 18 with aluminum coils if it was between those 2 but thats me.

"What would be louder" Threads arent really kosher here.

But to give you unbiased, and factual input, I will tell you this.

No one knows. No one can know without actually testing the 2 options in your car with your chosen equipment.

I can tell you that mathematically, the 15" on 5000w has more POTENTIAL to be loud.

But factors such as box design, woofer design, cabin space, and the woofer's ability to use that amount of power (not just absorb it) all comes into play.

And what is the goal? Just SPL, or Music too? Because you arent gonna play daily music on 5000w per sub, not for long anyway.

Also, X-Max has very little to do with how loud a woofer can play.

Actually, when playing at a peak frequency, the woofer will move very little, it should move the least amount at this peak resonance, than at any other frequency.
