JBERK
First let me say I love this forum, so many great installs and ideas to grab from to start another idea. I got this vehicle about a month ago and the first thing I got into were changing out the door speakers, head unit, and adding some low end to it. While it's not as impressive as the rest of the installs I've seen, I thought I'd post and get feedback from everyone... This is my second install, but I consider it my first because it's the only one I'm proud of. Here's a list of what I'm working with: Headunit: Alpine CDA-9886 Door Speakers: Kicker KS5.2 (5.25" with 1" tweeter w/ crossovers behind door panel) Subwoofer: 12" Kicker CVR Dual-4OHM Voice Coils Amplifier: Rockford Fosgate 700s Note** Wood pieces are now covered in black carpet and a few things ran differently. Will try to get a picture of new carpet/wire runs ASAP Please no hating, but 'constructive' criticism always appreciated. :-) FYI: Ground wires are ran to a different location now. k3n12ock
Good start. You should get rid of that prefab and build a ported box to specs. Nice start though regardless. JBERK
I guess it's a good thing if yall think that's a prefab box... I made it myself! Although the specs for the box were from the Kicker CVR's owner's manual that came with it. For the next box I'm going to build one that goes the width of the back, so shallower but a lot wider. But that'll come after alternator/battery upgrades.
EricM9104
Looks good. Could you take a pic of the dash kit mounted, pic from behind though, I could not figure out how it's installed in my Explorer... JBERK
The dash kit was simple. Just remove the stock head unit and push the entire thing in. There were little clips on mine that just apply pressure and keep it from coming out. Then you install the cage and turn the little tabs as usual. I'll try and get a picture sometime this week though. I'm thinking about a ported box but I'm not sure, got a few ideas rolling around in my head, we'll see what all happens. RFGoon1
Nice first install.. Your going the right route with the ported enclosure.. Although kicker has a long port length about 22" and 1.50" opening.. At around two cubic feet of air space for a porter enclousure.. I'm running two RF p3 12's in an eight cubic foot box running a 100 bd and it rattles my brains. .. But keep up the effort .. n8ball2013
little trick put the pocket on top. Ive seen where the weight of the head unit will actually dislodge the whole kit with it on the bottom. kit may have been worn out but ive seen it happen.
