Switchblade
Like I stated, i'm an audio noob. I'd like to get into it and learn, though. I recently had a setup: 2 12" Type R's with a 1000 Watt Alpine amp but ended up selling it. I had those in a slotted box. (Slot was in the middle of the 2) I've recently upgraded to 2 MTX 8500 15's. I'm wanting to know whether I should run them in a ported box, or a sealed box. I have a 2000 Lincoln Town car if that makes a different on my choice. Any advice would be great, thanks. Switchblade
big trunk = ported box = awesomeness My trunk isn't enormous, though. It's not an SUV or anything. But it being as big as it is, even though they're 15's and take up a lot of room. Ported would be the way to go?
cmamtower
im not sure how much trunk space is in a town car. but if you want the box ported, it shouldnt be another cu ft. or more, so ported wont take much more space anyways. just plan it out well where everything is going to go and make sure the box will be able to fit into the trunk. Ported would be the way to go? 14 inches deep,32.5 inches wide and 26 inches long = HUGE trunk yes ported is the way to go you can make up to a 21 cubic foot box with that if my math is correct EDIT: Dogpile>google>everyone Edited April 20, 2010 by blackrosetiger Quote 1998 Plymouth Voyager (daily) Jensen VM9213 H.U. LT.Smoke
Definitely go ported. It will drop harder and lower plus you will be much happier with the output of the ported vs. the sealed enclosure Quote Team MaxRetribution Si Vis Pacem Parabellum Id rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6 Bowhunting- Life Begins and Ends at Full Draw Bowhunting Team Fatal Trajectory Hunt Team http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/49335-sick96vtecaccords-t-line-build/?hl=sick96vtecaccord << Accord Build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/68498-smokedout08impalas-tline-build/?hl=+sick96vtecaccord << Impala T-line build Rebassed.com for all your music needs 👌
Switchblade
Would getting a custom box made to match the specs of my trunk be a better idea than buying a made box, then?
R_Mac_1
Would getting a custom box made to match the specs of my trunk be a better idea than buying a made box, then? Yes. Don't buy a prefab off ebay or something. It won't have the correct volume, port area and will be tuned way too high most likely. Let someone who knows what they're doing build you a box, or buy a design and build it yourself if you have the tools.
