STEvil Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Orion XTR's were ferrofluid cooled. I havent looked it up to see how it supposedly works, but off the top of my head I dont understand it at all. The coil is the hot part and it needs to be as light as possible.. if you add water/ferrofluid/etc you may as well just make it out of thicker wire or bigger around. edit - did more reading on a whim.. interesting: http://www.ferrotec.com/products/ferrofluid/audio/audioSelect/ edit - I dont understand how water cooling would work (well, actually I have an idea on how to do it for high power burps and maybe racing.....). Then have ac lines going through it, by having fittings on the ends of the tubing just protruding the enclosure. I think this could work, but i'm 17 what do i know? i resolve to be a nicer moderator. That wouldnt create a useful cooling effect. You would have to pump cooled water directly into the pole piece and top plate. You could machine out channels in the motor and tap a fitting into it that connects to a hose to carry water. Pretty much like bazooka did, then use a liquid cooling system from a computer. Or Just spray it with NOS.
