And a beefier amp will not help with clipping, it will only make it worse. If u would connect the 1200w RMS amp to both subs, at 1 ohm, then you would get 600 w RMS per sub. The same as one amp per subwoofer, and it's also more dangerous to use 2 amps, because the Gain must be matched.(matched perfectly, not just turn the knob till it looks "ok".) Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
LayneRuley Posted June 4, 2010 Author Report Posted June 4, 2010 fail again, sorry on iphone, it was auto spelled, or what ever, clipping is when your amp is gone past its limits and the speaker or driver wants more and the amp clips the signal, you obviously have NO idea what it is, a bigger amp would help....
kirill007 Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Ugh... Clipping means turning perfect sine waves into "square" or "squareish" waves. This creates a peak, and because it's a square wave heat will build up.(the cone moves and stops while still getting power.) Clipping mostly happens when the BASS EQ is set above 0 on the HU or when you turn you're HU up so much that it's going to try to put out more Volts then it can make, thus squaring the sine waves off. It also happens because of people who turn the BassBoost on the amp up, and not setting the gains on a amp properly.(<=this is probably what u did.) A amp can also clip if it is provided with too low voltage. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.

And 2 amps would be harder on your electrical system i could care less about my electrical system, i have a what....180 amp alt? cant remember it was from out of a police car, im fine on that part and defiantly not form the research shopping i have dont and my gains are all the way done, damn and clipping also happens when the AMP IS TRYING TO OUTPUT MORE POWER THAN IT CAN. if i get a bigger amp then clipping will be less of a problem is i set my gains all the way down to minimal, thats what i always do..... gains makes it to loud

LETS SEE... 600 watt amp will generally draw 60 amps. you want 2 60x2=120 you said its a 180 amp alt. 180-120= 60 180 amps its Revving the engine so regular driving or idle it more like 120 if that. SO... your eating up your amperage with just your amps for bass. Take into account your AC/ Heat and whatever else your running and it aint lookin to good. Kinda like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag. MAKE SENSE??? Impossible, what is you're definition of clipping? What kind of sound do you hear? Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
