tyty5150 Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Hey guys I've got a setup in my car, some 6.5" components in the doors and 6"x9" in the rear deck. Got an amp powering those and then a 12" with its own amp in the trunk. I've played sweeps and drops, the volume is fine with the highs and the really low bass but there is a bad drop in volume for midbass, a gap. I've set the crossover on the amp about as low as it can go for the front and rear deck without distorting sound or putting too much excursion on the small drivers. They just can't compete with the volume of the sub when it gets down to those hard hitting notes. And I have tried turning the sub down, still presents the same problem. Been looking into some 8" drivers. Any recommendations? Doesn't have to be 8", I'm open to anything.
skittlesRgood Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 well what 6.5" speakers do you have? putting a set of 8"s in the doors takes a lot of work. better to just look at a comp set known for midbass. my big recommendation is image dynamics. killer midbass, great sq with every model. I'm not an expert but, I'm not sure if that is completely the best way to measure this. To be honest a set-up with great mid-bass would be easily more recognizable with music. If your daily tunes does not provide them in the first place I do not see you as a lost of mid-bass. However, if the goal is simply to have a well rounded system then by all means get to work. Try to tune as much as you can before upgraded to 8's. Putting sound deadening around the mounting points of the 6.5 and 6x9 will help get you more mid-bass. And yeah I like your idea, finding better products that already fit and are known for midbass. And yeah Digital Designs looks nice, never heard them though. Hope their products are better than their totally user-friendly site. I had to open FF cause Chrome wouldn't work.

mr.p Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 rear deck speakers are easy to changeout and with some modification (enclosure) i think you could get some killer midbass from the rear fill, not good from sq standpoint but i will be playing with this a bit here next week. DCAUDIO BALLS DEEP
