ant the ninja Posted June 15, 2010 Author Report Posted June 15, 2010 anyone else see the epic fail in this post?? never, EVER put higher amp fuses than what was originally in there... but.... it is a boss amp... you technically got nothing to lose.... lol.. it sounds like an ohm load issue... check the sub wiring... im guessing its wired to 1 ohm ... or could be really bad voltage drop... you could try to do big III and see if it helps... personally i say replace the amp... is it SVC or DVC subs? pics of wiring could be helpful. of grounds too Believe me I know never to put a higher fuse in, but its a crap amp and hes broke and didnt want to spend the money. Its a DVC boston acoustic g5, I didnt realize it was wired to one ohm. Thats probably what it is, I honestly dont even think this thing is stable at 2ohms. Ive been telling him to get a new amp for a long time but he doesnt want to spend the money. Ill unbridge it today and see if it still cuts out. If it still does then it has to be a really bad voltage drop right? 2002 Ford Explorer XLT Front Stage: Crescendo CCX 6.5's Rear Stage: ??? rubbernutz1 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 but he did say stock electric so hes probly got a bad voltage drop. get you a volt meter and see what the voltage is when it cuts out. could be that your power wire is to small. you did say it was 10 gauge didnt you? id upgrade to 4 gauge it couldnt hurt.
99s10walled Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 I'm pretty sure stock electrical can handle 400 watts might be a loose power wire up front TEAM FLEX ISSUES Alpine cda 9886 4 AA Mayhem 15"s dual 1.4 1 Dc 9k 10.5 cubes tuned at 36hz 156.1 dash 154.6 meca mod 4 157.0 kick 2 xs power d3100s mechman 270 amp 2011 Ca state champ meca modified 4 and p&p 4.. dugee81 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 Pawn and replace the amp.. Guarantee the first amp of higher quality will show a vast improvement. Just my opinion though. 200a alt. by Excessive Amperage hc800 under hood & 2 Deka 9a31 in rear 1/0awg + big 3 SAZ 3000D HDC3 18" @ 2 ohm
Guest Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 did anyone even see my post? "bridged at 2 ohms? that means each channel is seeing 1 ohm...not good. thats the reason its cutting out and overheating. wire it to a higher ohm load or get a better amp." re-read and respond.

Im going to unbridge it to a higher ohm load and test it. Theres barely any bass un-bridged though, thats why he has it bridged. understandable because its a 4 channel amp, its what he has to work with right now though. Its just weird because I had that same setup, with 10 guage wiring (he has 8 not 10) and I never had a problem with it cutting out at all. It has to be a voltage drop. I will try the higher ohm load and see what happens. I realize the amp sucks to everyone else, hes on a severe budget. We have all been there so I think most of us can sympathize. 2002 Ford Explorer XLT Front Stage: Crescendo CCX 6.5's Rear Stage: ??? Two 15" Powerbass M154 Audiopipe AP15001d Pioneer DEH-P5100UB
STEvil Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 how exactly did you wire it to the amp.. are you using only 2 channels, or all 4? MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
bassl0va Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 how exactly did you wire it to the amp.. are you using only 2 channels, or all 4? It's bridged on two of them at like 1 ohm or something. dwz Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 1) Bolt the ground down to a clean piece of metal on the chassis (don't you dare use bolts on the seat). Costs like 1 dollar to get 2 washers, a bolt, and a nut. 2) Check your RCA inputs by testing the AC voltage /w a multimeter (ON THE SPEAKER OUTPUTS). Unplug one input, if you see the AC voltage drop, the input is good. If not, it's bad or its the RCA cord OR its the headunits outputs. 3) While you're at it, kill two birds with one stone and check the ground on your headunit (unrelated). 4) Check integrity of the remote wire. 5) Check to make sure they're not overheating. But honestly the best way to start out is to get a stinger voltmeter... then if you notice voltage drops, upgrade your power and ground wires and or battery/alt if necessary. It could be that your amp is overheating from lack of voltage or poor ground, reducing it's efficiency and compounding the problem even more. I did all of the steps above and fixed my problem, cause I had the same problem as you. My amps are doin better with 4awg to distro block than with separate 8awg wires. Its even possible your headunit is overheating or malfunctioning and sending clipping to your amps. Happened to me before I replaced mine...
