Thanks! I'm in the process of some painting, but my camera broke on me in the middle of working. Then I had some problems with the primer I used, so I'm going to be sanding things down and redoing them, so I'll be able to just take the pics again. I have a gokart and a boat I'm trying to sell, so all proceeds should go towards the electrical upgrades. tejcurrent Posted March 22, 2008 Author Report Posted March 22, 2008 Okay, I'm getting ready to sand this layer of primer just slightly and put on the 3rd coat. A few progress pics while I'm waiting for it to dry: I put a layer of resin and then smoothed that over with a layer of bondo so the paint wouldn't just absorb into the mdf. I really want a nice glossy shine. After sanding it down real smooth with some 220 I hit it with a few coats of primer (I know I need to clean that carport out, but I dont' want to stir dust up in the air to get in the paint- and it's open faced too ) And that's where it stands now. I'm about to buff it up a bit and hit it with the 3rd *edit can (yes it's can primer). I can get right about 2 thin coats per can, so about 5-6 layers. I'll probably wet sand that tonight or tomarrow afternoon and spray the layer of white on it in a covered garage. I wish I had a paint booth, but I want to see how it'll turn out. Then probably Tuesday I'll see if I can't get the detail stuff painted on and by wed. or so it'll be in the car (hopefully). tejcurrent XS Power T3

Just a little left to do, but it's getting very nice. 00sdime00 Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Looks great bro...but you're going through wayyyyyy to much work on that primer...I would've stopped blocking it at 320 grit...spray your basecoat...then the clear coat...let it sit for a few days...THEN wetsand the clear with 1200, 1500, 2000...and after that cut and buff... That's the problem right there, it'll be a while till anyone gets 1500+ grit nearby (at least the places I've asked). I got a single stage paint just for ease- I figured I'd spend more time in prep before the color. Next time I think I'll ask for help first though, this is my first time. I thought this seemed like it should be easier Would I benefit from wetsanding my final coat with a 1500-2000 on a single stage like that before cut/buffing? Any advice on a good product for the final step? Thanks for the advice- maybe it'll make my next project a lot more easy (hopefully the hood on my wifes car). tejcurrent XS Power T3
