J.HA Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 my JL 1000/1 amp was working fine until suddenly it stopped working and producing screeching-humming sounds through my subs. I took a look at the amp and i noticed that the Low Ohm light was on. I disconnected everything besides the power wires and the low ohm light is still on. Also the amp is producing a slight humming sound as well. What is the problem? How much would it cost to get this fixed? Quote
UnderLoK Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Sounds fried. Take it to a dealer or email JL. J.HA Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 most likely fried can this be fixed besides taking it to repair or JL? Quote
bird333 Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 My low ohm light came on. I had loud popping noises coming from the sub. JL will fix it for $180. Quote
matt14 Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 A friend of mine got this amp for free along with some r.f subs. He called me saying " this thing is slappin hella hard, but it cut out and so stuff is coming out of the amp". So i asked how he had it wired up and he said explained it to me. Come to find out, these are not 1 ohm stable, and he had it wired to 1 ohm. Took a look at the amp at work the next day and smelled horrible and had what looked like oil coming out of the amp. He fried the amp quick. Diddnt know it was that cheap to have repaired. I thought it would be more like 350-400, since we all know jl's pricing. bassl0va Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Don't some amps kinda screech when they go into protect? The magic smoke didn't escape did it? J.HA Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 Don't some amps kinda screech when they go into protect? The magic smoke didn't escape did it? I opened the amp and found out that 2 of these small chips has solder that is burnt. These chips are attached to the heatsink fins. Quote
