Howcome others dont need alts, but I do?

Hey there guys,

You guys keep telling me I need an alternator and such and such, but people on youtube, real life, etc. dont have any? But there going to run the same set-up as me, or even greater? Like I want to run 2 Fi 15 SSD's on an AQ2200 Amp. Like I don't get it why others dont have one but I need 1 :/. Can anyone answer this for me? Thanks!

different cars have different alts, you could have a 60 amp alt on a honda vs a 150 amp alt on a suv... and if they dont have the electrical most of the time their shit will eventually burn up... people are telling you to get your electrical up to not fuck your shit up

I don't see why people stress buying a H/O alt so much. I ran an AQ2200 with a stock front battery, and a Deka 9a31 in the rear. Never dropped below 12.5 on full tilt for my 30 second runs. Basically this, you could spend $400 - $600 on an alternator or $200 - $300 on some 0/1 and a good 2nd battery. Would get the same results anyway IMHO.

some people dont like a tad bit of voltage drop (like me to an extent) and some dont really care. depends on the vehicle and stock alternator size also. bigger vehicles have bigger alternators and smaller cars have smaller ones. my car doesnt have really ANY "luxury" electrical items (no power windows, locks, i have rear window defroster though) so the stock 70 amp i had would suit me just fine as it would barely have to power anything besides the car ECU and battery and various lights. some cars on the other hand have a shitton of electrical things that the alternator has to supply, which leaves less/no room for mid-high poweredaftermarket audio gear to be powered correctly.

Derrick is correct... Having a better ALT will help you no matter what. Even if you dont need it it will help.

We need the type of car, but it's all about efficiency of wiring really. You can get by with a 4k system on a stock alt and one big battery up front.

You can get away with a lot if you stretch your ampacity to the max.

I have a 260a alt for the same amp along with two XS batts. Get one to keep your voltage higher than stock and If you plan on adding power. Run stock if you never plan on adding more power.

Also if you get a alt with a good battery I would almost guarantee you would not get close to 12.5V. Some people want the bare minimum to get by and some want to stay as close to 14.4V or higher.

If I were you I would run your setup and see what your voltage looks like. If it is too low for you go from there.

more voltage = more power 99.9% of the time... so sitting at the bare minimum means you are cheating your subs out of all that good wattage!!!

find out what alt your car comes with, and see how much voltage drop you have, as was said before, if its down in the 12s, and you want to stay in the 14s get the alt...
