port area qustion.

what dose a box sound like when the port size is to big.

Really peaky.....It will play higher frequencies as well as what the box is tuned to(most likely low...)

tuned low?? depending how much port area he is talking about, the box would probably be tuned pretty high unless the port was ridiculously long to make up for the high amount of port area. which means the box itself would also have to be bigger

and by 16 he means sq inches per foot. and i say yes, i'd stay within 12-16 sq inches of port per foot unless you really know what you're doing when it comes to designing boxes

as of rite now i have 19h 37d 49w. with a 4.5t 47w 19l port. sub displacement .66. net vol is 12.5. port area is 211.5. tuning 37.03Hz. 1 inch mdf.

port area will be fine, tuning is a little high for my liking, but may be ok for you however. what concerns me is the port ratio. that's going to be a pretty thin port (when considering port ratio). it's possible it may cause some port noise.
