Alternator rebuild ?s

I'm thinking about rebuilding my CS130 alternator with some high amperage rated components. This is what I've been able to find: 140 amp rotor, 200 amp stator, a heavy duty Delco regulator set at 14.7 volts, and a heavy duty Delco rectifier with six 70 amp avalanche diodes. I'm a little at odds about the difference in rating between the rotor and the stator. Will these work together? What will determine the output of the alternator? Does any one have any thoughts about what this combination might put out amp wise at idle and at speed? Thanks.

Why not just switch to the cs144 replacement

I have one, rebuilt it myself... works great.

Then for $18.50 get 'cha one of these to go on it:

Does the stock rotor support such a high amperage? By any chance do you know what your alt is outputting with this kit? Thanks for the pulley info.

Very good question, so let me answer that with another question.

How do you know that your 300 amp alternator you just paid big bucks for is making their rated power??? :)

Get yourself a good true rms dc current clamp meter, and test the alts, its the only way you will ever know your alternators true ouput power in a real life test, not some bench test with next to perfect testing conditions. :)

Stock rotors are normally a good thing as they were built to a higher standard than most of the junk rotors you see around the net that they paid some guy .05 cents a day to make. My one Iraggi that had the rotor explode was one of those rotors... It's a super long story, but I've had a stock GM rotor in a DR44 doing over 30k RPM and it didn't explode (thanks Dom).

That's what happens when you trust that someone who is providing you with a product knows what they are doing... They go and put a 1.5" pulley on an alt for an LS2 with a 7.65" crank... I knew I should have measured it first, but Dom said "it's cool man I'm familiar with it don't sweat it".

^ yep. I am using the stock rotor and all is well. As far as actual power... no clue. Just like Audiofanaticz said, the only real way to know is by clamping it and testing it.

That kit I used to rebuild worked really well over the 140 amp Duralast Gold I had before- like night and day up to the point where my system was asking more of that alt than it could put out.

Check out my build log- there is a part in there where I rebuild the alt and give a review. :drinks:
