SlimDog53185 Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 A few months ago I had my alt go out on me. After I replaced it I can't turn the volume up to where I did before. The battery ran all the way down when the alt went bad. I don't know if this messed it up or not. The new alt is the same specs as the old one and it seems to be working great. I really need this problem fixed. Does anyone have any other ideas?

If ya dropped the agm to near nothing its possibly gone with a bad cell or 2, wet cell and deep cycles might have dropped a cell also but you'll want to take a dmm and test the voltage with the car off and the car running and post those numbers here so we can tell. What I mean is I can't listen to bass heavy music with the headunit turned up to the volume I set the amp at. I will test some voltages tomorrow and post those. Does the car need to set for a period of time for me to see if the battery holds a charge or could I do it right after I turn it off?

SlimDog53185 Posted September 21, 2010 Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 It tests at 12.56v with the car off after setting all night. With the car on it tests at 13.99-14v. This all sounds good to me. What else should I check?
MECHMAN Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 12.56 is a little low but not bad. A good condition flooded battery should rest 12.7-12.8 fully charged. You probably just lost some of it's capacity by discharging it all the way. I'm sure running it on a weak alternator for a while didn't help things either. Do yourself a favor, and replace it with an XS power AGM battery.
