Orion sub woofers

I'm looking into purchasing some new subwoofers. My uncle has an orion HCCA 10.4 competition subwoofer on a 1500 watt amp. I listened to it with various songs and the beast hits like a 15 inch sub woofer. I want to purchase this subwoofer and for the 10.4 it ranges around $300-$350. Is this sub woofer good for its price, or in general, or should I get a 12? I only want one subwoofer.

yup, great woofers. just get the 12 for more cone area, and get a good 2200-2600rms amp.

look at ur local craiglist for good deals first.

i find it funny when people say a 10 hits like a 15. what is it that youre comparing? what does the 15 sound like that other smaller subwoofers dont?

that being said the HCCAs are awesome subs. i never had good luck going over the RMS rating but the subs were always great subs. for the money...i think you can find better deals. and if i was to spend $300-$500 subs on a 10" woofer you can guarantee i would not be going to Orion. how much space do you have? whos building the box? electrical upgrades if any? like david said i would look to craigslist first for some local deals. then ebay, you might be able to get the 10" HCCA cheaper. you can also find some good deals on here in the for sale section. possibly check out caraudio.

in that note the hcca is a great sub, but it can be had for cheaper

My first subs were like 10 year old orion XTR3 subs 15's, Sounded amazing. I havent heard the hccas but Ive seen videos on youtube and they look pretty damn good.

You can get an amp that is only 2 ohm stable that pushes out power too, an example would be the Kicker zx2500.1 that pushes out 2500w @ 2 ohms. so yeah you can get the 10.4 and still push it to its potential, and if he wanted the 10.2 then yes he'd have to get a 1ohm stable amp to have it see its potential. So all in all it can see potential at 1 or 2 ohms just depends on what one he gets.

He said he has 500 to spend on amp and sub, so im taking it he means together not 500 a peice.

OP- You might want to consider uping ur budget to make sure you get a good amp that does the power that it says it will do. The HCCA's are a nice sub as long as you dont over power it, you should be very happy with the sub itself.

I've always liked the subs but i'd try to get it around 250-275 so you can still get a decent amp.

You're going to need electrical also you might want to re think this through to run 2kwrms potential you'll need upwards of $1000 for electrical/woofer/amplifier/box/wiring.
