It is actually not hard at all to get loud out of a trunk. You wall at the trunk opening, strip your rear deck / completely seal it, seal any passages to the trunk with e-foam, and use more port than you think you need. And by port I mean AERO PORT mwaahahaha

Port and sub facing in without the seal is the worst possible configuration for cancellation. So the first thing to do is make sure that your trunk doesn't rattle AT ALL when the bass is playing (even at higher pressure levels.) As for the port area, most people use far too little when using aeros for some reason. Instead of using the 12-16 sq. inches of port per cube rule. You should base you're required area off the peak to peak linear excursion of the driver and the total cone area. That is the volume of air the woofer displaces during a cycle. Also the lower you tune the less area you need due to decreased cone velocity and thus a lower volume of air trying to evacuate the port when the diaphragm moves..

Usually with a trunk wall the "car sealed" dynamics aren't that great, but when you open the windows you should be able pound high 40's without too much trouble.
