Best Books on engine repair and building

Im looking to learn more about working under the hood and about building engines. what are the best books/other resources to use to learn about doing this

Just general books or car specific? I think if you want car specific the Haynes manuals are very detailed with their info and pics.

haynes manuals and google can get you places lol

Get the shop book for the car your working on and it will tell you how what tourq every bolt should be How to take the parts on and off and what tools you need it tells you everything it's the manuals shops use

They go for about 150 per shop manual

I was looking more for a general type thing. im thinking about buying an older car to build as a daily driver and was looking for somewhere to get more information on that. BTW when i say older car im talking like a 72 dodge dart with a slant 6 or maybe a nova with a 305.

Again get the car then buy the shop manual

There are way to many makes and models that are built differnt to have a general book about it

Trust me you can't beat the shop manual it's like a bible when working on that car

I would look into car tech. Good for start but i would get the manual first depend which car you looking into.
