K-factor, I think, I can't remember for sure, that it is to match the sensor to the rest of the TermLab equipment. http://onlinecaraudio.co.nz/?p=productsMore&iProduct=880&sName=term-lab-db-tl-tm such as this, the sensor is a 183db one, so you set the k-factor to 183, I think.

you dont set the kfactor to 183. that would the max spl setting. kfactor is usually between 178.0 and 178.4, it varies per sensor.

Ok, as I said, I didn't know for sure. I think the local TermLab has one that is 176.3. It is to do with matching the sensor with the rest of the equipment though right?

im not 100% on this but K factor is the peak decibel level that its accurate to...its still accurate above that number but not as reliable so say its 178.6K at 180 db it may not be as "true" as a reading. but i MAY be wrong

accuracy at high db levels shouldnt be a problem. wayne has said that the sensors should be accurate to 183db, but that he doesnt know what would happen with it after that. if someone has accuracy issues before 180's, then they probably have the older sensor with the smaller hole in it. as of a few years ago, the sensors come with a bigger hole in them to help with accuracy at those high spl levels. the kfactor is just a calibration to the rest of the metering system.

It's not like us ryan, there's gotta be a lot of areas in the mainland where there are only a couple of shops within a large radius that only push JL and other brands with a high profit margin lol.

yea here in panama city fl ther is like 4 ghetto shops that sell crap an like 2 shops that sell good stuff at a super high price so i go to jacksonville alot an get stuff at a good price an the one shop swears by the audiocontrol meter

I´ve worked a lot of time with both, YES TL rocks! But, an Audiocontrol still works very nice for testing, and also depends on calibration, at least the mic, there´s a sensor aplication for the Audiocontrol also, i don´t know if those shops has MIC or SENSOR, but i can tell you this, the AC where i do all my testing has a good mic calibration, and my results are these:

Between 135 and 140 dbs on the TL, i get 2.5 dbs MORE on the AC

Between 140 and 145 dbs on the TL, i get 2.9 dbs MORE on the AC

Over 150 dbs on the TL, i get 3.5 dbs MORE on the AC

I don´t know what is like that but it is, the more i score on the TL, the more difference i get on the AC; Now, i haven´t test the AC190 (audiocontrol sensor) , but my buddies back home have, they say the AC190 it´s 1.8 off from the TL score, so i think you can go and get metered, if it´s with the AC190 you can have a very nice idea of your real TL score, if it´s the MIC then i dunno because depends on the calibration

well i went an got metered on the audio control an they had the new mic/sensor an i did a 153.7 not bad for one 15 but untill i get on a termlab to know for sure an also that was on music no tones or sweeps

im sorry it was a sensor that they used but they also had a new mic an we done it with both the mic was a lil louder we also done my wifes car an i know whut it does on a termlab an on the audiocontrol her car was 1.5db louder than the termlab
