baaudio
So my L7s pretty well broken in now. Been playing it conservatively for a couple days. My gain is up about 1/3 of full rotation. Headunit sub level is 0. When I play some songs I get a little coil smell, so tonight as soon as I smelled it for a bit I pulled over and felt the sub and it wasn't even warm. I always thought the coil smell would only come from a pretty warm/hot sub. So I'm kinda puzzled if its really the coil or if I'm just smelling things. I'm more careful about my amp settings and such now since I burned up the 12" L7 I ran. But I don't have an o-scope so I just gotta kinda guess. Autruche
Anything past 3 dB of bass boost is risky business if you don't know how to set your stuff right. Bare minimum you should tune your amp with a dmm, if you don't have access to a scope. The cone/dustcap may not be warm, but the coil could have been jumping up to over 500 degrees, which will give you the coil smell. You are most likely clipping. Quote Need Test Tones/Sine Waves? 01 S-10
Turn that bass boost off and reset the gain at least with a dmm if you don't have a scope. Also remember that your enclosure is huge so you shouldn't need as much power to get it loud. That box is the largest Kicker recommends so the sub wont have as much control as it would in a smaller box. Quote TDH FTW !!!
