This is how i change it everytime...it won't go from 2hi to 4lo, or 4lo to 2hi without going to 4hi in between. Now it will go from 2hi to 4hi in park and in neutral, but it only goes from 4hi to 4lo in neutral. Does this effect anything?

no it must be in neutral to shift into or out of 4LO. the transfer case has to change to the lower gear ratio and can not do so if its still in drive. but yea just buy a new actuator and call it a day. it might also help to read through the manual in the 4x4 section just to make sure your not doing anyhting wrong.

the actuator is located on the pass side of the front drive shaft. have someone push the button while you lay on the ground and see if you can hear it. I did mine nad it took about 10 minutes tops.

I can hear it changing from inside the cab when I hit the 4lo button.

i bet you can hear the button clicking. you are not going to be able to hear the actuator engaging from inside the cab.

they are going to tell you to change the actuator or the switch itself though.
