Need a bigger turbo for my 05 Mustang

Recommended Posts

I need help with choosing a turbo, need to know what turbos will help accomplish my goal which is to bolt on an increase in streetable HP using my existing setup.. This is also a bit of a classified, if need be, I will move it to the classifieds..

I have a 2005 Mustang with a worked bottom end (setup to handle 1000+ HP. I have the turbonetics single turbo kit made for this 3 valve mod motor and this year Mustang. It comes with a Turbonetics twin ball bearing liquid cooled Hybrid Turbo, the 60-1 T3/T4 Hybrid. This setup is good for 550 HP which is less at the wheels, need a larger turbo that will bolt right up to this kit with little or no mods, (I think it's supposed to be a T3 flange, will) find out for sure) I am not looking for any 200 ebay dirts, want to step up not down in quality.. My goal is to make 700 to the wheels with the existing setup, my fuel system, injectors, engine, heads, cam all upgraded, all up to the challenge, 60-1 is the only thing limiting my power for now.. Looking for something new I can get a great deal on, or something used in new condition that I can get cheap.. Has to be something streetable, don't want too much lag, cam is specc'd to perform between 3000 rpm and 7000 rpm, would like to make power from as low as 2000 rpm so it's not a pig on the street from light to light. BTW, it is a 5 speed car with 411 gears that I might change to 373s, heavy duty clutch.. Injectors are 60LB jobs, fuel system is stock with a GT500 pump, I will add an additional pump when needed..

Thanks fellas.. I am looking for something from Turbonetics, Garret, Master Power or the equivalent. Again, a liquid cooled ball bearing turbo, preferably T3 flange, but will modify to accept a T4 flange.. Has to be larger than a 60-1 t3 t4 Hybrid, but I don't know how large is too large for a daily driver..

If anyone has a good deal on a twin 57 or 62 MM turbo kit that will fit this car, please let me know..

Anyway, I have some questions about ported heads on forced induction and cam profiles, before I go into detail, anyone in here with extensive knowledge, hands on experience regarding those topics?

What kind of idle will I get from this 3 valve with a cam speccd like this 229/238 duration @ .50, 540/560 lift, 114 or 115 lobe separation.. Compression is stock, right around 9 to 1, heads are not ported slightly, mostly just smoothed out and cleaned up, no casting flash, humps or anything restrictive, just nice and smooth paths for air to flow, stock valves.. I ported by hand, so some of the ports on the exhaust side may be off in diameter toward the exhaust gasket.. Also, cleaned up the charge air motion plate, removed the butterfly flaps on the OEM plates, may just replace them with deletes, cleaned and reshaped the area around the injectors, and knife edged the cast alum dividers on the intake side of the heads.. Will there be inconsistencies in airflow with a boosted application? If so I'm in trouble..

This sounds like a good post for one of the mod motor mustang websites.

I would call Harry over at Precision and let him spec out a turbo for your application. A single 76mm turbo will get you 700 rwhp with ease.

ok you said this" cam is specc'd to perform between 3000 rpm and 7000 rpm, would like to make power from as low as 2000 rpm so it's not a pig on the street from light to light. BTW, it is a 5 speed car with 411 gears that I might change to 373s, heavy duty clutch.. Injectors are 60LB jobs, fuel system is stock with a GT500 pump, I will add an additional pump when needed.." Why are your cams set to 3000 to 7000 when you want to make power at 2000rpm? Second that year mustang you have makes max horsepower at 6000rpm that motor is a piece of shit sohc 3valve. Next you say injectors are 60lb jobs..... then you go on an talk about how your fuel system is stock, but you have a gt500 fuel pump. You could of have just got a walbro 255. What compression your running? All this sounds an smells like bullshit. Pics or gtfo!

Have amps to trade, or cash up.. All US made old school collectors amps

1) Hifonics Zues VII from 1987 (light blue anodized finish) decent condition, missing end plate

2) PPI Art series A1200.2s both white with pastel geo-graphics very good condition with original warranty stickers intact, includes plumbing for cooling system already installed

1) Orion Extreme 900.2 in excellent condition, board is pristine, exterior in almost perfect condition, a few minor scuff marks, no deep scratches or dings, missing plugs, silver edges, black in the middle..

2) Kicker ZR360s both in good condition, missing end caps, board is pristine, includes crossover module with a variety of chips to custom tailor crossover points as well as slopes. Too many chips to list, send PM with needs and I will try to accommodate

I also have a pair of JL12W7s freshly rebuilt by JL in their original boxes, these can be considered brand new, they have not been powered since complete JL rebuild (not sure if I want to part with them but I am strongly considering it..

I am open to partial trades, full trades, etc.. If anyone is interested, please let me know what you have and we can work something out.. Will provide links to detailed pics of all amps.. I have an ebay account with 169 feedback all 100% positive, been selling top name quality preowned car audio over the past few years, also have good checkable references on Diyma.com. New here so I don't have any reps yet..

I have a quick question. Why do you have 60-62lb injectors on your car? They are rated for for 820hp at around 85% duty cycle; a 30lb injector can handle around 408hp. Well ok then you say you have "Turbonetics twin ball bearing liquid cooled Hybrid Turbo, the 60-1 T3/T4 Hybrid" A 60-1 means 60 series turbo; its the cheapest turbo and it has nothing to do with the t series turbos. The hybrid is a t3 turbine with a t4 compression section. BOTH types of turbos make around 200-700hp! I work in a damn shop and do turbos and performance upgrades for a living man and all the junk you talk is bullshit. Take your lies to a ricer forum they will believe you there! An boy post some damn pics!
