Well what would you recommend? I've shelled a ton of money on my solox build and I don't want to keep doing this shit. Can I use my stetsom 2k6d for the smd with a big ass box (I'm thinking bigger than 5 cubes now because I never use my back seat , and no I'm not attempting to fuck up a wall setup lol) but I have a great electrical system to back this up since when I would burp my solox my voltage would only dip .2 volts after 30 seconds of on and off burping. I've never had my voltage get less than 15.3 cold, 14.9 hot. And my radios pre outs suck for voltage. They are 2v. But its not bad to me. Lemme know what you think.

Honestly I see no harm in underpoeering a sub with clean power as for a big box I would say yes do to ppl saying if your underpowering a sub have a big enclosure and if your overpowering have a smaller one. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Its blown so u need a new SPAIR but it doesn't have any part of the coil that came apart or something like that. Honestly id say fuck kicker. I have had 3 subs from them. All underpowered to shit and setup on oscopes and they all blew. They deft do not run at rms rating and no matter what heat up fast and smell like shit. The titanium on the cone is so bad that it got warm (mind you I could touch it and it was ice cold) but it bubbled up the damn titanium that is inside the coil gap. Wtf is with that??

underpowering can be just as bad as overpowering....

Underpowering a speaker with a clean signal will not damage it. That's a myth.

Op- I could possibly build you a box

yes but ive read plenty by many people on here that say box specs and such should be different base don underpowering, overpowering, or playing at recommended specs

which is why i said it could be just as bad, im not trying to prove/disprove myths, just saying that an enclosure may need to be different depending on how it is powered and that just using an oscope doesnt guarantee it to be safe (now it may have clean signal and it may not effect it, but i always thought an enclosure would still have an effect if its not done right)

{ btw, not quoting the whole line of text referring to the statement kind of givers the wrong impression, what you quoted and what i said in total about it gi ves to different explanations i think}

Sorry I'm on my IPod and I don't know how to bold text, that's why I just cut off the rest. My intention wasn't to take what you said out of context. I simply meant to correct the statement about underpowering being dangerous.

thats fine its just in the context it was in originally it stated that underpowering was dangerous based on other parameters needed to take into consideration, which may be wrong

hopefully we can get some other people to comment on this, some say no danger others say box size is a factor, im a noob at audio, im happy to admit, ive dont nothing but research on this site for a year now, so i jsut try to gather the facts and help when i can, but im always happy for further confirmation or dis-confirmation, lol

Its all goo. I'm on my phone and I would rather have your criticism for it because I want to know how I'm fucking it up. I thought that this time my box would be great for my woofer. I even bought one from a locsl shop that they used in another guys truck with the same design and size and mine took a shit.

yea, really sorry to OP, sort of got off topic a bit, i am not as well versed in the actual building of boxes so to know if what you did and what you want will be fine, hopefully more people will come in

Its all good. Like I said I'm glad that we are discussing this because I want an insane build. I don't want to spend $8000 again but I'm looking for 3k tops for a box and smd. Id build the box. I have all the tools but designing one haha... I won't even try that. Lol.

Wow. Honestly if you can give it the correct box and more power, your better off with a different sub.

Anything less than 3000rms, a Mayhem will be louder.

And its not rocket science to build a box, you can pay somebody a few dollars and get a design and cut sheet.

Disagree, i think total mayhem said his smd is louder than his mayhem. even underpowered.

its a myth that even ed bust with the tsns, and posted a vid.

they get loud even underpowered very efficient..

Edit: the install and box matter alot tho

Still the SMD is designed for 3.5k rms plus.

Nick at FI/AA says the Mayhems will be louder with 2kw. I'm sure not in every install but I bet its more than not.

And their is nothing wrong with underpowering a sub but why not spend less and get a sub that will do better with the power giving.

I by all means intend to get a bigger amp in the future just not like asap. I want to researh some high quality and power amps. I love my stetsom so much that like I said id buy another one and strap it but my model is hard to find. But I was going to use it for 1 year to 2 with 2600 rms and I'm sure I have more than that because the amp was modded to go up to 16v but I don't want to go that extreme and I have a 15v charging level now.
