You can talk with someone in the industry to help you and have them sign a Non-Disclosure agreement.

In my last job as a product design engineer, I signed these all the time before working with our customers on their products. I still cant and will not talk about most of them.

First thing to do is research your idea to see if it has already been done and patented or if someone else is already working on it.

Then you work on designs.

Then you can do a feasibility study to see if it can be viable and marketable.

Then you work on a prototype.

Then you test and test and test and refine refine refine.

Then you forge a plan to produce and go to market.

I'm doing a lot of research to make sure it hasn't been done. How exactly would I word the non-disclosure agreement? Is it a general contract, or does it have to state the item in discussion?

Its a general contract. basically says that anything discussed in relation to said project is between the parties that signed it only, and cannot be leaked outside of those parties

Thanks for the template. I'm searching through USPTO's database right now. Are there any other resources you can suggest to check if my idea isn't already being used? I appreciate all the help.

Well, if you talk to the right person and get an agreement signed. That person can tell you alot within the first conversation just off the top of their head, They may know of the technology's existence and they can also figure if it is viable and marketable right away.

Other than that, there isnt much to search for besides the patent office. That's what Einstein used to do.

Before making up any patents, what's you're idea? :peepwall:

something tells me the whole reason he posted this was so he could keep the idea from getting stolen. and if its a really good idea which it probably is. The fastest way to get it stolen would be to post of on a forum like this.. YOUR TRYING TO STEAL HIS IDEA!
