voltage differences at battery and at amp

That amp kit should be good? I want to make sure im getting the best possible voltage I can.

First System

2002 Impala LS 3.8L V6, 128,365k miles.

Alternator: DC Power 190Amp H/O Alternator

Headunit: Kenwood KDC-BT945U.

Speakers: MBQuart 6.5" Comps, 6x9 3-way.

Amplifer: Eclipse 3322 on front 6.5 components, and a Infinity Kappa One @ 2ohm- 800w

Subwoofers: 2 REAudio SRX12D2 wired to 2 ohm.

Box: 3.1cuft box tuned to 33hz. sealed off to cabin

Big 3- done with all Knukonceptz KCA 0 gauge.

Don't drop below 14.1v at full tilt. :)

Alright, cool. my re srx12d2 came in today, wired to 4 ohms getting close to 320 watts, it slams. Would love to get another along with a stronger amp, but the cash ain't here right now for that...this is more than enough for right now, but you guys know how it goes, once you start you always have a want for more.

uhh theres your problem mate. you're using wire that isnt even intended to be in a car that has super thick strands and very little of them. im honestly seriously surprised how that wire didnt melt the insulation and cause a short/fire in your car.

why would it melt, 6 gauge is plenty for his amp. my guess is also a bad connection somewhere.

i have seen 0 gauge house wire, my 4 gauge wire was bigger than it. so i doubt that 6 gauge is REALLY 6awg

Legal TL scores145.6 on the dash sealed up in the low 40hz area with the port out145.5 on the dash sealed up @30hz with the port inless then 1k clamped on a 3.5k!

Why would you EVER WANT flex?
huh?...flex is what can make the lows lower and more air being pushed correct?

for the house wire fight you got to remeber house is high voltage low current and a car is high current low voltage now car is high current and high currents produce a lot of heat... house are low current and a lot less heat so the wire is build for voltage not current and heat while car audio wire is built for the current and heat so yes house wire has a greater chance of melting or catching on fire.... wire can catch on fire seen it a few times in person

and copper is copper but electricity flows on the wire not inside of it. so the more surface area the better, house wire has a few thick strands of copper for the higher voltage but low current) car audio has a million little strands of copper wire. way more surface area and can handle the current and heat but it cant handle high voltage unlike the house wire

Skin effect only applies to AC... DC uses the full cross section of the wire.

60mm^2 of copper will conduct DC exactly the same whether it's 6 strands of 10mm^2 or 6000 of 0.01mm^2 or 1 bar of 60mm^2.

Otherwise bus bars wouldn't work for sh!t, would they now...

Wire is wire really. The strand count is just for flexibility and the only difference in voltage handling is the insulation thickness...

What difference does it make how many strands there are? Your chassis doesnt have "strands" and it doesnt melt or catch on fire.

The people who are saying its "better" to ground to the car then useing wire.. Couldnt be more wrong. Battery termanals are actully backwords. The current flows from neg. to pos. a low grade metal frame is going to be worse then a copper wire, unless you drive a car that has an alloy frame. Keep the 2 runs but upgrade the wire!

I think you are referring to electron flow. Car batteries are marked with conventional flow on the other hand. Yes they are marked backwards, we have Benjamin Franklin to thank for that.

He did an experiment where he was watching the direction that a spark flew in a circuit. He labeled the start of the spark as positive and the end as negative. It ended up being false (he couldnt actually SEE the excess of electrons).

Society never bothered to change the markings of pos and neg to their true intended meaning, and it doesnt really matter anyways as long as everything is wired consistantly.

So really, the excess of electrons is on the negative side of the battery (which is positive in real life). This is electron flow.

Same thing goes with lightning....we SEE the electricity traveling and assumed it's moving from "positive to negative" when the real flow is the opposite of what we have named. sounds kinda confooosing I know.

its not that the terminals are backwards. DC just flows from neg to pos.

as stated above, it depends on what sense you are referring to, conventional or electron.

I have seen 0 gauge scosche wire and MY car audio wire was bigger than that, too. AWG is AWG, if it meets the standards then it will perform like stated in the standards.
