Personally that hard to breath affect has come from over 150 db at anywhere between 33hz-43hz. Now getting that out of a trunk will be difficult it takes ALOT of power and air moving. and for lower frequecnies then travel farther needing more distance to travel to get the full wave to complete. its going to have to deal with your box ALOT. get think of how water flows and go from there

single 15 (just switched from APXX 9515) to 3.75 cube box tuned to 30hz sealed off trunk powered off a powerbass 3000

i have been trying to do my research on sound waves and how they work. thing is im coming up empty due to my lack of knowledge on car audio and how sound frequencies move about the cabin. my goal is to give people watery eyes and that hard to breath effect when the bass hits. i have gone through many ideas for my system, and what i really want to do is face them forward with the port forward with the trunk sealed off( like i said in a previous post ) but like i said i want HARD hitting bass, bass you wouldnt expect from 2 12's. the question is how to i go about doing this? do i measure out the entire cabin from the front windshield to where the box will be then from door to door? what do i do to achieve these goals?!? please help!

like i said its very dependent on the person and how much they can handel my 144 setup in my truck I had May03LT say " I felt that in my taters"

Definitely all about perception. My PT would play 154 all day and tear people up and make them bail, yet their 156+ cars (generally peaking at the same frequency) sitting next to mine were pretty easy going. While some <152 low tuner vehicles were hard to withstand even for me.

I've listened to plenty of <150 systems that would make my eyes water and tickle my nose, but my car never really did that. Granted, my car would rip most people up @ 30hZ, but that doesn't mean there was a pocket of compressed, activated air right at my skull like some of the lower scored vehicles. I've felt cars within proably a 7-8dB range (on the meter) that sounded nearly the same to the ear. And I've sat in quite a few including 159.9 vehicles during runs. Some are worse than others.

You will almost never know how your cabin environment will react to rapid displacement of air until you test a hundred different setups and orientations. I can safely say I know my Cruiser inside and out and how it will react to different setups and frequencies, so I will build my next one accordingly. Everybody here can vouch for me building over and over and over to test things out.

I say build something and let us know how it goes.

This depends on what you are looking for in reproduction. DO NOT build for the passenger. ALWAYS build for yourself. If you are porting it and facing it inward, you will need to tune a bit lower than you're used to (assuming you enjoyed the previous tuning with back firing) since you won't have any loading on rear panels.

Bigger or smaller depends on your sub's air compliance and/or tuning desires.

so let me sum this up. to get the perfect box for ones car, you must build according to the sub specs and work from there....trial and error is basically the only answer to get " perfect" box / setup weather it be facing the trunk or facing the driver. is this the bottum line?

Get DDs 95 series subs. Seriously. I don't know what kind of magic SPL dust they rub into the cone but whatever it is, nothing else I've ever heard delivers quite the same violent bass. Honestly, I don't know why, and that's not like me.
