Horrible Gas Mileage, How Much to Replace...

Recommended Posts

how big a difference does that Sea Foam make? sounds promising.

Seafoam is good but I swear by Lucas. Plus Seafoam is kinda harsh and you really don't wanna use it too much. I usually get 2-3mpg better if I haven't used any in a while.

To OP, replace O2 sensor would definitely help but a simple tune up would also do wonders. On my girls accord she was only getting 20-21 and all I did was change oil, air filter, and proper inflate tires and now she gets 28ish. I'm sure with spark plugs, wires, and some Lucas she would see 30s easily. Also where you get your gas can make a big difference. I only get QT gas, but Shell is pretty good too. Avoid Wal-Mart gas at all costs.

my front o2 sensor went out, dropped my gas mileage in half, i fixed it now my rear one is going out, lol

i put seafoam in my car every 3 months, i do a regular tune up every 6 months unless i drive an excess amount, example my next tune up will be at 4 months due to some road trips, lol

check tire pressure every week, thinking about investing in those tire caps with the pressure gauge on them, anyone know if they are worth the money, i think they were like 2 bucks a piece at the store where i last saw them

but seafoam def is awesome, i just put mine in the gas, but there is multiple ways to do it, for the type of cleaner it is, i think it has the widest range of things it helps out of almost anything

Shell pretty good?!

Shell, Chevron & Texaco are top notch for gas

I only run V-Power (91) from Shell, Supreme 91 from Chev if I have to

wow so many replies :D, I stopped at this place called darrels muffler shop, he is like the best for the lowest, knows everything about exhausts, anyways he showed my my catalic convertor is starting to go which can also damage the muffler, but the 02 sensor is probably bad for sure, when he had it up on the lift it could have been changed so easy, he showed me all of the 02 sensors, but if I have to do this with no lift it is going to be a pain, what brand would your guys recommend, I guess these are heater ones so that they start reading earlier, I am going to take it back to him in a few days, cause I cleared the engine code, and he said to come in when it comes back, he even said skip the front desk, he wont charge to look at it, the front desk will, ha ha, so yea, I am thinking of fixing this shit and just getting a different car, 1 person in a minivan, kinda stupid, idk, has a big factory alt, 130 amp, and was cheap, and lots of room, anyways, thanks so much for all the input!!!

I'd like to know how he figures the cat is bad.

Replace the o2's and be done underneath, I say.

As for those gauge tire cap thingies, save your money. They leak, they're inaccurate, they suck balls. Use that money and get yourself a nice gauge, not one of those pen ones, they suck. Get a fancy dial gauge, nothing more than fifteen bucks or so, but the 4-dollar ones are very finicky and don't like being abused. Use that instead.

Too many projects, too little time...

starting to rattle a bit, he didn't say it was bad, but he said it was starting to wear out, he showed me a few insides of some other ones too, I think I will try with the o2 sensors myself, wish I had a lift though, what brand should I go with?
