  1. The TPMS stands for "Tire Pressure Monitoring System" My new ride actually monitors tire pressure, so the sensors are required....grrr What brands does your dad's shop carry I'd like to see what he can get in 19x8.5 with a 5 lug 5x120 pattern wrapped in 235/35/19's Thanks
  2. Does anyone have any resources for purchasing Rims? I am looking for a set of lightweight performance 19's at a decent price. Currently i'm looking at BBS, Breyton, Miro and Linea Corse, but am open for suggestions. As an FYI, the wheels that I am looking for will need to be TPMS compatible. Kev
  3. Yes, you can feel the bucking even when backing up or driving in a straight line. 4wd was only meant to be used when the rear tires can't lock up and get traction. So if you are backing up in 4wd and both front and rear wheels lock up and have traction, all they are doing is fighting each other. Here's another thing to think about, In most 4wd vehicles, the front and rear diff's are different gear ratios. So if the front and rear wheels both lock up for traction they will pull and tug each other since they are spinning at differnent intervals and creating different amounts of torque. The reason why it is so hard to get out of 4wd is as you said, the wheels are locked up with traction fighting each other. I'm not being a smart ass by asking this, but I have to ask, since I used to live in Sac. What makes you think you even need to use 4wd? It doesn't get slick enough out there to even warrant using it, as you guys don't get snow or ice and I know getting traction in rain out there is no problem. Using 4wd on pavement where traction can be had can and will cause damage to the transfer case and front diff. Again, 4wd was only meant to be used when the rear tires can't lock up and get traction.
  4. As stated above, this is normal in 4wd. On pavement you should not be turning sharply, making u turnes, etc, as it will buck and cause damage to the transfer case, in which is most likely what you are hearing when you say it sounds like it is falling apart. Yes 2wd and 4wd are night and day from each other when driving. 4wd should only be used when when no traction is available, I.E mud, dirt, snow..
  5. You also threw off your A/F ratio since more air is flowing..so I'd at least have that checked out so that you don't run too lean.
  6. Sounds like you could be low on fluid too. If you are driving for 5 minutes, that is plenty of time for the pump to drain the fluid if it's low...then letting it sit will bring the fluid back. I'm not saying this is the issue, but it would be the first place that i look.
  7. Dayum... I haven't seen Weeks in forever. He still looks the same from way back when. Tell that foo I said Hi and that I still owe him one for that cattle prod in the back, when we were younger.
  8. Yep you are dead on. The downloading of anything in which is for sale, yet was not purchased is illegal. However the RIAA in the past has only been interested in file sharing and downloading of illegal music. http://www.riaa.com/
  9. According to the Seminar that I was in, nothing about the RIAA requesting information is illegal. They clearly won the file sharing law suit and have the ability to subpoena anyone and any ISP if they suspect that file sharing is going on. For anyone that has any networking background will understand that NO ISP is spying any anyone. Every single site that you go to passes to the internet via their routers. So if the RIAA subpoena's your ISP...the ISP will just hand over Router Logs. This is completely legit and legal. From the router log it is not hard to track down which IP's are transferring traffic on sharing ports. This is networking 101. Sactownstang - From what I gathered you are correct. It is now easier for the RIAA to sue the ISP...then the ISP can go after the user/abuser for illegal file transferring via what they are calling the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (in which I can't seem to get a copy of). I do want to be clear though, that I posted this as a warning to people posting items and not as a debate topic.
  10. This post is just to remind everyone that posting of Copyrighted Material will not be tolerated and will result in a vacation away from here. I was at a seminar this past week and was notified by some pretty large companies, including Verizon Business, that again file sharing is at an all time high and the RIAA is once again on the hunt to set some examples. So this is the one and final warning, DO NOT post material that is copyrighted. http://www.von.com/news/riaa-to-isps-send-...le-sharers.html Kev
  11. How many miles on it? When was the last time the fluid/filter was changed. Just from your description, it sounds really out of adjustment. But without tearing into it there is no way to identify what shape the equipment is in.
  12. Stay away from Superior Arms lowers. I've got a stockpile of them cause they were cheap. Needless to say you get what you pay for and unfortunately the magwells are too tight and out of spec to fit the majority of my mags. I sent a batch of 4 back to superior arms and they said that they'd fix them for me. They sent them all back to me untouched and said that they were all within spec. So i stopped using them. I picked up some Essential Arms and Sabre's for about the same price.
  13. I'm on my bike full time, unless the temperature here is less than 40 or its snowing/raining.
  14. yeah, ninja 500's are definately good bikes and great starter bikes. But do to your size and having experience with dirt bikes, I would look at a couple other options as well, starting with the SV650's.
  15. I wouldn't sweat the price. Take it to Gately's and get it done right.
  16. Pending on what type of truck it is, it might not be cost effective to switch to a diesel, as you will have to replace the Transmisstion (to be able to handle the torque of the diesel) and possibly the driveline, rear differential and brakes. I would talke a look at this post to address your question about the alternator. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...p;hl=alternator Adding additional Alternators won't affect the engine at all and theoretically yes it will take a little bit extra effort to turn the belt, since there is another pully added. But I think the big question is how much load will be on the alternators? kev
  17. X2!!!! If you can't touch the ground now...then you need to keep looking for the right bike. My wife is 5'4" and she has been able to touch the ground on all of her and my bikes with no problem. No offense..so either you are seriously vertically challenged or you are not looking at the right bike for you. Keep in mind that Sportbikes were not made to be comfortable. They were made to be on the track. As trainman said...you don't need to be touching the ground flat footed with both feet to be able to control the bike. As long as you can lean it over on 1 leg and be ok holding up the bike at a stop light then you will be fine. EDIT: Ohh and in the pic of the SLOzuki on the top of this page...what's with hemorrhoid pillow on back???
  18. Whatever you do...DO NOT lower the bike. That changes the entire geometry of the bike and causes bad things to happen, since it in return changes how the bike handles. Find a bike that fits you without modifications. Have you looked at the R6s? As far as the R1 goes..its not that they are uncomfortable, ridng my r1 was like riding a cadilac compared to my duc..it's just that you have to fit the riding position. I'll have another R1 next season. And as Trainman has said...Do take the MSF!!!!
  19. Me personally...I totally like the aprilia's and almost got an RSV Factory. The only reason why I didn't get it was cause I would have had to buy the bike out of state since there are no dealers here that can service them. I've got a good bud at work that has a tuono and he absolutely loves it.
  20. You bring up a very good point that I stress a lot here to the locals..but many people don't listen and learn the hard way, after they just dumped a brand new financed bike. Todays generation of sportbike (including the 600) is way to fast for any new or amateur rider. The issue is that people today are too into looks and not looking at practicality. Honestly, the standards in america need to be like Europe. Every new rider needs to start off on a 125/250 to be able to understand the mechanics of a motorcycle, the controls, how to maneuver it...etc. NOBODY should start out on a motorcycle that can do 0-100 in less than 5 seconds. I think probably the best starter bikes on the market will always be the Kawi ninja 250 and the SV650..
  21. Dwight27 sorry for the late reply so my wife had an 06 750 and as I have posted in previous posts, it was the biggest piece of crap I ever owned and I kick myself for letting her buy it. For starters, Slozuki has no knowledge on what a slipper clutch is and how they are supposed to work. So every single time that thing would engage (even when it shouldn't it would, it's timing was way off), the clutch would literally lose adjustment. My wife would literally have to pull over and have me re-adjust the clutch for her, so that she could ride. If not the clutch would be dragging and it would burn out the plates. The brakes were absolutely horrible, the warmer they got, the more brake fade that would appear, which means the cooling system on the brakes for this bike was not correctly setup. Most newbs buy this bike cause they think it's sooo fast. Let me tell you, yes the bike is fast, but not being to control that power is why the majority of newbs lay the bike down as it has HORRIBLE throttle control. So the powerband starts kicking in around 4k, which is way to low. If you ever plan on riding canyons or track, ususally when you are coming up on a corner, you downshift and get the bike below the powerband so that you can control the turn. With how low the powerband is on the gsxr, you have absolutel no control in the turn and you better have a steady hand and know what you are doing or you will overshoot the turn. That's what I call Dangerous. The paint was really low quality and as it got warm, got real brittle and was popping off....Shall I keep going on? All of these were presented to the dealer and I was told by them and by Suzuki Corporate that this is part of owning a sportbike. WTF???? How come I have never had these problems with Yami's, Kawi's, Honda's, and now a duc too? Bottom line, Suzuki sucks and so does their dealers..I will never buy another one. You definately have to buy what you like, but buy what you like and don't be pressured by anyone else and be prepared if you get the slozuki to work on it. Kev
  22. Stick with Garmin. I travel a ton for my job and don't leave home without my Garmin. Before I bought it, I also tried Tomtom and Magellan. Both of these units were extremely slow at recalculating the route if you miss your turn and they keep telling you to make a U turn..even though I had U turns turned off. I then went and bought a Nuvi 6600 and I don't leave home without it. It has never steered me wrong, it tells me when to turn and is extremely quick at recalculating the route. Some of the newer Garmins do an do not have turn by turn audible directions, so you definately want to check their website on the different models.
