  1. Those numbers are electrical. Acoustical response will match up. Congrats mr D'Amore on developing yet another amazing product. Next up: Model S with the ND91 and the Model XS with the ND65?
  2. What do you mean by "rolling back"? I agree that those chips are a pain to cool properly. What's your opion on high-end class-d modules like Hypex?
  3. Some people want to be like Messi or Ronaldo when they grow up. I'm an EE Student and want to be like Tony D'Amore.
  4. Can you explain why though? Just trying to learn. That impedance affects output is logical to me, but I don't see what cabin gain changes for the amplifier.
  5. Uh what? Why would cabin gain play any role in amplifier output?
  6. For the love of audio, engineering done right! It's very nice to see what focussing on quality instead of price gets you.
  7. Ah okay, thanks for the explanation.Looking forward to the tread! I'll hold off on asking more questions for now, they will probably be answered there then
  8. Nice work! Going all out on the sound deadening. Why can't monoblocks be run from the same power cable? What advantages does a double run offer here besides lower resistance? Do you do PCB production in-house? Saw some pictures of the new amp PCB, looks very nice! Will there be any reveals on the DiamondBoxx MINI at CES?
  9. Judging from this page it has universal input: http://diamondboxx.com/products/replacement-or-additional-charger Most adapters have that nowadays. So it would be no problem to plug it in in Germany.
  10. Tboorn, Most speakers of this type don't do much below 150Hz by standard, but at levels where the excursion limits allows for boosting they boost the <150hz spectrum (loudness equalization). When they can't boost (full volume) the DSP usually applies some psycho acoustical tricks to fake bass extension without extra mechanical/thermal stress. Those tricks work pretty well, but if the audio is as 'pure' as they claim, they aren't doing all that. Love to see people transform their passion into a a business via a kickstarter. Bit too much wank terms about how their output is 'pure', but hey if that way of marketing helps them sell; no problem The product looks pretty sleek. Wish them the best.
  11. He has no need to teach you anything. He doesn't owe you anything. You don't deserve anything from him or anyone else because you have no respect for people and their efforts based upon your comments. If you have a question there are ways to ask it. These people are giving away free advice, at their leisure to people in our hobby. A little respect for their time and everyone elses on this forum would be a good thing for you. This isn't a engineering forum, he is not presenting untested findings to you. In fact I regret ever saying anything about an amplifier because of your comments. Maybe i joined the wrong forum then. A lot of the things I said/asked/stated were just out of interest but get taken way out of context. I'll leave the discussion for now. Thanks again mr d'Amore for developing this product and taking the time to answer my questions.
  12. What are you trying to imply fresh prince? I'm not trying to correct or teach mr D'Amore at all, he should be teaching me if anything. As said; I'm just trying to understand his design choice, which he did a great job of explaining. Now I know more than the day before, great things right?
  13. Damn guys, I'm just having a conversation and trying to learn of his knowledge. I really respect his work and I'm not bashing his products AT ALL. What should I do, kiss his ass? Maybe I'm on the wrong forum, but I thought it was meant to share thoughts and learn from eachother. I'm not trying to pose as knowledgeable at all, I'm a complete noob compared to him. I'm just sharing what I (think I) know, so he can correct me where neccesary. I was going to type a reply to mr D'Amore, but maybe I shouldn't and just let it be.
  14. No problem, maybe I should add more smileys and compliments to my posts It's also a wrong attitude, in my humble opinion, to assume that Tony (or any other knowledgeable guy) knows everything. I'm sure he has learned quite some things here on the forum. A forum is meant to share thoughts. Maybe, just maybe, I'm telling him something he didn't know.
  15. Are you trying to tell one of if not the best amp designers in the world how to design his product? What? I'm just sharing my knowledge. I'm interested in his design choices, so I ask questions and have a conversation. I really respect the guy because of what he has done. Because he knows what he is doing, I'm trying to understand his design choices.
  16. eBay has plenty of pre-made boards. Some DIYaudio members sell their own boards, which are a bit more expensive but some (not all) are better than the eBay boards. Luckily, the LM3886 is a very popular chip; there are some good engineering guides on how to design the 'perfect' PCB. It's really satisfying to receive your own PCB's, it's like holding a new-born child you designed yourself ;p. I guess this discussion is a bit off-topic, so if you want to discuss some more you can open a new topic or send me a PM.
  17. It's bi-amped.... And probably designed for assembly. To make it a consumer ready product it needs a complete redesign. Buy a LM3886 and a toroid, enjoy your great sound on a budget
  18. Thank you sir! The choice of Class A/B was based on two things - Sound quality and idle current. These are both suprior on a class a/b amplifier. Advantages of class D amplifer are size and better effiencency under some conditions, not all. Size was not a concern as the size requirement for the woofer airspace was the determining factor there. Efficency was a wash. So Class A/B it is, and it sounds great! Just trying to give Dr. Helmholtz some love and respect Idle current shouldn't differ too much I think? What are your findings? The main thing is that class AB uses about 4 times more power with music at max volume. Waste of battery IMO. Class D is also much more suited for mass manufacturing (SMD, sinking via the PCB). I saw on your FB page that you were searching soldering techs down to 0603. There's no way your handassembling this (right?). Do you mind sharing some internals, maybe via PM, I always like to see the engineering work of others.
  19. Great product! Props to Tony for developing it. Audio done right; active crossover, subsonic filter, thick enclosure, high quality drivers. I can understand the discussion about the price, but quality costs money. Mass produced injection molded speakers with D-cells may be cheaper, but that's reflected in the sound. Judging by the cycle life claim he is using LiFePO4? Very nice. Is Tony on this forum?, I would like his explanation on the choice for class A/B. That stuff eats away battery while it doesn't sound much better than a well-designed class D. I laughed when I saw: Two 2 inch (51mm) Helmholtz resonators, tuned to 45 Hz In the description Because 'ports' didn't sound fancy enough?
