yea, most are 12-14 watts, lol my one friend was soooo convinced his jensen had a 300 watt internal amp...until i showed him what a 300 watt amp looks like older panasonic screens had the little 12x4 mosfet amp as a separate box on the harness, we used it on a motorcycle install or two, its so cute! its like 2.5x2.5x1inches with two spots for harnesses to plug in, one rca/power/ground/acc and one speaker output for standard front/rear/left/right impossible to find nowadays, but it was a cool little thing to illustrate exactly what is in a headunit to supply power, and explain why a 50x4rms amp is a huge improvement over a h/u

LOL i mean, in a normal daily car, yes if you're like Alma Gates and decide to have a very nicely done PA system just for kicks and giggles on a dedicated show car, thats something else.

the stuff i socketed, i took a like a generic extension cord, cut the end off, stripped back pos and neg and put it to the sub (or radio, or whatever needed to be blown up), plugged that into a surge protector strip with the on/off button, and then plugged that into the wall (garage socket usually used for table saw/air compressor, dedicated 30 amp breaker) click the button, watch the fun, click off when you're done and yes, those btls are ungodly stiff, i was so shocked when i saw them beating off an amp when i could only move it a few mm's by hand and kicker cvrs arent very stiff at all, single spider and a very compliant surround. they're great for what they are, but nowhere near a stiff woofer.

could it possibly be that only some speakers need it while others dont? i mean my jbls i beat the shit out of from day one, never had the slightest issue these kickers used to stink when I beat on them for like a minute, now it takes 5 minutes with the volume 4 or 5 notches higher every speaker def sounds different after it breaks in, it may just be a matter of some subs are rated for say 500 watts and will blow with 600, while something like a btl is rated for 2000 and can take 4000 if you're smart with it, so beating the balls out of it with 2000 watts out the box is a walk in the park. steve, what are the chances of you taking one of your well broken in btls, and a fresh donor btl, and wallsocketing them next to eachother and seeing which lasts longer? i know you're pulling those things out as soon as you get your SMD's released

the only thing i could ever think of is: as the suspension loosens, the sub travels farther, which moves more air and provides more cooling i mean, it may only be like the slightest difference, maybe like a 10% increase tops, but it could be that thing that takes you from slowly heating up to the point of blowing and being able to keep itself cool rockford manuals say to break it in, and I've heard it time and again from people who have been in audio since before I was born that you need to. and personally, i've seen quite aa few cases where it, as far as i can tell, made a positive difference.

i couldnt run the mile when I popped out my mom's vagoo, but that doesn't mean i wont ever be a track star. if it takes a few ours of use to get the optimum performance from something, that's more than normal my xbox controllers dont feel right till the little nubs are worn off the sticks, my brakes on my car had to be seated properly, my goped had to be run short distances with rich fuel to seat the piston in the head, my batteries had to be used a little and charged up before they gave me their full performance, my computer needed me to spend 20 hours getting drivers, updates, and essential programs before i could really sit and use it like i wanted to. nothing out there works like it should out of the box, i wont even wear clothes till after i wash them, or shoes till after i lace them.

i blew my cvr's the first time around in like a week "because i didnt break it in" second time around, i was basically not an asshole blasting it full volume all the time for like the first 20 hours and then started beating on em, they're still playing years later i guess it can make a difference, considering nothing was changed at all the second time around besides taking it easy on them the second time. Also did the exact same thing with like 3 separate sets of rockfords in 3 separate sets of cars for three different friends, set everything right, they blew em, i replaced em and told them to let em break in for like 20 hours before they really beat on em, and they never blew again (p1,2, and 3 series, different in each car, all off approx rms) like holding a used cvr and a brand new cvr you can feel the difference in the suspension stiffness, you can honestly hear the difference swapping an old box for the same new box (same year and everything, just one used for a few months) it can make a difference, and the way i've always done it is to just not push em hard for the first 20 or so hours of playing, and then see what they can do. on the flip side, 100's of customers we put systems in for dont have a clue and pound it hard from the first second on and never have a problem, so who the hell knows, personally i'd take it easy on em initially

i give it a 5/5 it goes on like tint, its pretty permanent and very strongly adhered if you leave it sitting overnight (as opposed to putting it in your pocket and curling the edges up and such) shit is indestructable, and if you do scratch it they replace it for free i had it on my psp, and just about every cellphone, my cousin has had one sheet outlast 3 iphones... great great amazing product, and doesnt screw up touchscreen functionality or cause rainbows like some of the cheaper ones

get amatt's excel calculator off the forums somewhere, its perfect for things like that and a single 6in aero through where the factory sub was would be pretty ill, you could do like half in/half out to get the length you need to tune lower

i've built like 4 boxes for friends using homedepot cuts...they have a panel saw i was just like "hey, i need to build something and broke my table saw, if i mark everything out and throw you like 5 bux can you make everything like perfect?" the guy has always said yes, and always did a near perfect job...just have a tape measure and cut sheet with you and work fast and sweet talk the cashier and get her not to charge you for cuts and i'm sure you can glue and screw by yourself and a jigsaw can be had for less than 30 bux if you need one

they teach all of this in highschool physics... like how to wire in parallel or series, how to calculate impedances and everything, i thought it was all very simple who needs a diagram? its like 4th grade math crutchfield one is easier. the math isn't hard though...spend the 4 minutes on wikipedia and learn to do it all in your head.

that was me we install A LOT of shallows where I work, 3-4 setups with shallows per week, a lot of people have pickups/limited room if you're going for sq and need low end, its amazing. We had one of those pioneers mounted in the cargo area of a mini, so he didnt lose any room, it sounded fantastic. the shallows will never get loud though, and it may be that people who bought the kicker expected that of it, but they just cant do it.

yea those headrest monitors need to be redone wrinkles and foam ftl and are the front seats like slip covered or something? they have mad wrinkles too stuff like that bugs me...
