The cone area is slightly more on the 8's but you are gonna be paying a hell of alot more for the JL's than the Fi. Even online the 8"v3's are like 190 bucks a pop, so thats like 800 for not that great of output, now get those retail and it will be like 1200 for 4 8's. If your stuck on 8's I would go with the Sundown Audio 8's they will stomp the JL 8's all day long.

I think that box would be around 5.6cubes after displacement, with 100 square inches of port, which equals about 17 square inches of port per cub, which is fine. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

For a 100 pound small package not the size of a box, it costs from about 412 to 550 dollars to ship, now add in the size of the box and that will tack on an extra 200 dollars, and you need two so that is around 1500 dollars in shipping costs alone.

x2, I mean the DC sub will handle more than rated, but not almost 4 times rms.

IDK if he is doing it still but if he is, it would probably be cheaper to drive your ride out there, than to get a box shipped, plus you would probably be able to get some demo's.

Well shit I have no idea then, the alt isnt like 300+ so even with whether its an overdrive pulley or not shouldnt make a big difference with you output at idle, what brand was it??? Maybe one Dom or Rob will get in here and be able to walk you through some trouble shooting since they know alot more than most of us do about these things.

Do you have a V8 or a V6, IIRC Beatbox's was a V6, and V6's tend to idle a lil higher than V8's. But I am just throwing out ideas it will be easier to solve the problem once Beatbox gets in here.
