  1. it said for it to be 12 x 1.25"? i personally dont like that. it may be fine, but ports that are too thin are susceptible to port noise. and port noise is stupid
  2. and most boxes are basic, along with most people needing to build basic ported boxes. ported boxes themselves are basic, which is what my calculator is made for. no t-lines, bandpasses, etc. tho t-lines are easier to design over ported imo. EDIT: sorry for off topic...but umm...how would you pronounce your name? lol
  3. you know...i like you more and more each day ahhahaha. my update is SO close to being ready. with a whole slew of things. imo it's going to be MUCH better. taking the guesswork out of whether it's a slot port or not, and if it bends. and trying to figure a way to do the cut sheet for the ports and one of the hardest formulas to figure out lol. a box with 2 different depths. seems easy enough...but no. it's not really. it is after seeing the problem/solution tho. but i had to join a math forum to get some help on that lol. before i post it up tho i may as a few questions for a general consensus on a few things tho. kinda a majority rule and sketchup is cake! there's a tutorial or two here on this forum that shows how to make a box. you only need a few tools. rectangle, line, push/pull, and the circle one. and the ruler comes in handy at times. and my calculator does the whole thing. you need the box volume in order to do the port there is no one size fits all type thing, so it's all one big variable
  4. ah man no worries! it's all a constant learning process. you were pretty close for your first time imo. if you get a tahoe then you have plenty of room. i'd maybe go a little bigger to around 2 cubes per sub and around 15-16 sq inches of port per cube and RE's calc is nice for the fact that if you need a visual, and just happen to be building one the way they have their picture designed to show, then yeah you can see the box there. but it's also not very accurate. it's generally a few or more hz off of tuning.
  5. those dimensions you gave...were those max dimensions?
  6. you're on the right track with your box. tho the port is too thin tho. a good port ratio you wanna stay within is 1:7 or 1:8, i forget which it is lol. your port ratio is almost 1:10. so your port height needs to be raised, which is good anyways as you need more port area for that box. take that divider out of the box tho and port ratio is ok. just need more port area still. i'm not sure of the subs you're looking to use, or desired tuning and whatnot, but using the lowest amount of decent port area, about 12 inches per cubic foot, and those same box dimensions i get a port that's 3.5" high, 12" wide, and 20" deep. this will give you 3.22 cubic feet of net volume, about 1.61 per sub (without bracing displacement, not far off from what you had), and tune the box to just under 35 hz. again...not sure of your equipment or goals, so that's more of an example. and that's without the divider in the middle of the port
  7. i also have a calculator you can download and tinker with the link is in my sig
  8. first thing i'd do is turn that bass boost down. all the way. then readjust your gain properly. for displacement, depending on size of the box and number of subs, i usually use around .2 ish for each sub, then add a few tenths for bracing displacement. the bigger the box is you build, the more surface area of port you'll need to properly suit the enclosure. general rule of thumb is 12-16 sq inches of port per cubic foot. frequency tuning depends on how much port area you have. less area will require a shorter port length than that of one with more port area in the same box to maintain the same tuning. are you going to be using an aero port? that quote says one 4" port for a 2 cubic foot box. doing a 4 cubic foot box going by those recommendations you'd need two 4" ports. each 10 3/4" long. i havent checked that tuning so i'm assuming it's right. if you're fully lost, post the dimensions you have to work with and someone can help you with a design
  9. box modding is just a hobby imo. and like most, is just something you do that you enjoy to pass time. i think the vid is pretty cool. the time and thought put into it is cool. and the craftsmanship is very nice.
  10. i live in northern ky, about 20 minutes south of cincinnati. i drive as far as dayton for comps. about as north as the 'local' shows in the cincy area go. i think. i've gone to indianapolis, and would probably go as far as columbus. but not much further than that. that's about 3 hours from me lol
  11. not necessarily. it's only considered a slot port if it shares at least 1 box wall as part of the port wall to effectively add in 'end correction' of the port. if a port has 4 of its own walls, like steves, then it's technically not a slot port.
  12. 480,000 dollars an hour my eye sight i think is getting slightly worse as i get older. last time i got tested i dont think it was 20/20, but coulda been cuz i was pushing on the eye i had to cover by accident so when i opened it everything was blurry to read lol. my dad has bad eyesight in one eye...so nice to know how well this stuff works for future reference
  13. or an output problem in the amp. if there was i dont know if the clipping light would still detect anything if that was the case tho. guess it depends where in the circuitry it's integrated into.
  14. i've heard both opinions of prototype. some love it, some dont. i've heard a few more good than bad i think. it'll go on the christmas list lol. i played it briefly and thought it was fun, but not quite long enough for it to get repetitive. FF is released in japan too i think, or close to it...so not toooo much longer till we get it over here god of war 3 looks pretty badass. screen shots of the new alien vs predator look pretty good too. but who knows what will happen when it comes to gameplay. i still wanna get killzone 2 and star wars: force unleashed. star wars was alright...but i can see getting repetitive too
  15. i have a friend from the philippines. he moved here just a couple years ago. i can send him the questions if you'd like. i'm sure he'd have no problem answering them. or my dad. he's from colombia, moved here when he was 7 tho
  16. i LOVED the first bioshock. i kinda wanna play it again. i'm definitely getting the second one. there's some other games i'd like to get, but they've been out a while. i still wanna get ahold of prototype. the darkness is a decently fun game i'd like to get. there's a couple others that i cant remember now. and definitely final fantasy 13. i cannot wait for that one. i've been playing since ff 7, which put me in...7th or 8th grade at the time i think. EDIT: ima cross my fingers that the multiplayer on bioshock is at least halfway decent. i hope it's worth playing at least. if not the campaign will still be badass
  17. sell the amp...get a mono block amp that's 1 ohm stable...and get 2 dual 4 ohm subs and wire to 1 ohm
  18. do not install a cap. that is not any sort of solution to dimming lights. i'd add a second battery as well. upgrade and add because you dont want a dry cell battery used with a wet cell battery at the same time. extra batts will help maintain voltage which will help prevent lights dimming.
  19. i have enough resources to spare a few protection programs for added safety i used to have avg, and it worked fine but it got to a point where it would scan, and scan for HOURS! like almost a whole day. and i dont think made any progress. so i said ef it and deleted it. i'm gonna try vipre tho
  20. dont forget drooling and slobbering and spitting profusely i wanna subscribe to his vids if they're all as good as this one
  21. why wouldnt you trust anyone else with this answer? it's not like steve is the ONLY person to have done this and it's a basic question. i'll still answer it...yes you do fuse it. fuse it with a fuse that has the same rating as your H/O alternator. some may say go a lil bigger too :01nocomment8so:
  22. badass! now you can download that retro dialer from cydia you saw a while ago the payphone lookin one. it's in cydia, just type retro dialer doors look pretty damn good. they did a good job on em
  23. i'm liking the direction these are going in
  24. i personally wouldnt tune a box much higher than 40 hz if it's for daily listening.
