  1. HAHAHAHA. yea you better go smooch ur wifeee bigtime for puttin up w/ ur ass hahahaha. she looked thrilled. ....looks like $60 worth of tequila/beer to me. off to the tiny-maker.
  2. OK- So this guy comes in my shop, after hearing my car from far away and claims to have a lincoln w/ (I forget cuz I was biting my tongue as hard as I could) either 4-15's or 6-15's in his lincoln (4 in trunk and more in back seat i guess) AND "8-L715's in his tahoe off 8000watts and I garauntee nothing on earth is louder!..... OK, OK MAYBE....BUT!... He says "they're Jackhammers" in the lincoln. I was like WTF? No f*ckin way-(in my head i say this-otherwise i'm playing along) 1: Real Jackhammers only come in 22'' 2: the wieght of that many/that type of sub would make it an automatic 100% drop in rear 3: He's a broke-ass, no-cash havin trashbag 4: He said he had 24's on it and This guy I (me not him) know could "vouche" for it all. I ran into my buddy that "could vouche" the same night after work: 1: Guys fulla sh*t-He has a lincoln, w/ like a buncha 15's maybe 4-6-8 sumpin like that, but it sounds terrible, poorly designed and based on what my buddy said "not as loud as my car" which he (my buddy) hears quite often, AND he only has 20's. 2: I checked MTX's sight: they are actually raping the amount of publicity they got off the pimp my ride episode and re-labeling the MX line of "entry level" subs as "the new jackhammer line"(they dont say that but you make the comparison) 3: why? GREEDY FEHGS. They have so much publicity and "interest" generated by that damn ghey install w/ the one jackhammer (great investment i guess you gheys) that they figure they can slap the "jackhammer name/logo" on the otherwise sub-par MX series "superwoofers" and sell em to everyone and their momma. 4: they're SADLY, TERRIBLY, FRIGHTENINGLY, PROLLY RIGHT! 5: So just prepare urself for what I foresee to be an EXTREME influx of NO-NOTHING douchebags going around goin "you know that superwoofer on pimp my ride called the sledgehammer/Pimp-hammer/jack-off-hammer? Yea, I got 10 of em in my civic!" Here's the news break from MTX just so you know-BUT-if you loko at the pics f the 10's 12's and 15" "jackhammer subs" they look frighteningly similar to the older MX series. http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/news/newsTemplate.cfm?ID=1632 "...10", 12", and 15" models weigh in at around 50 lbs each and are capable of handling between 500 to 600 watts RMS. Their die cast aluminum frame, solid steel pole piece, aluminum voice coil, aluminum shorting ring, and 7 lb magnet allow these woofers to deliver the enormous bass the JackHammer name is known for." Seriously? Someone please show me i'm wrong on this...but i fear I'm correct.
  3. his looks to be sealed-no visible ports....a 4th order can be port on either side of the woofer so cone side or basket/mag side-also called single reflex bandpass (your usual pre fabs w/ the plexi window) a sixth order is ported on BOTH sides of the sub/s so cone side and mag side also called dual reflex BP, 8th order I BELIEVE (correct me here if u can) would be like a sealed box firing into a LOADING chamber (essentially a bigger/open area but still contained by "box" walls) usually sub firing sideways into that area and then the side of that area open forward or rearward like a "mouth" I saw a drawing on this of one I think I'll find it again if I can. OK-L-A-Z-Y Bastages.... http://www.diysubwoofers.org/talkshop/messages/33907.htm ..."A parallel-type 6th-order box with both of its ports firing into a third vented box is an 8th-order band-pass enclosure". PIC courtesy of not me.... http://www.geocities.com/f4ier/subsim8BP1.htm
  4. TECHNICALLY....Gold/Silver/platinum/Nickle are the BEST you can use but if you got that kinda $$$ I can think of better ways to spend it. Copper is fine (and nice and cheap compared to ^^^), but it finger prints pretty easily so if you can rubber coat everything but the contact points I would, or keep air from touching them via some other cover material that would seal it off nicely except at the contact points. Brass is pretty non corrosive too but will still get prints. ~2cents (I know I'm not Steve, but I thought I'd toss that out there cuz I know the man is a busy MO-FO and might take a lil while to get to ALL his "hey steves") I'll leave the other Q for someone who knows already or Steve himself cuz I'm sure it's in the build logs/sounddomain/etc somewhere but i'm feelin lazy, as most generally are(use the search feature).
  5. 4-Kicker compVR 12's (2005-current) Member builds section: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=3161 My 1997 Integra. Also in the Videos section and Feb and March SOTM nomination threads.
  6. Coo np mang I be busy too so i feel ya. BTW- are they dual 2ohm or dual 4?
  7. For the JL's, I think around $250+shipping...They are still "owned" by a buddy of mine but I'll get the official quote up if ur interested. Theres a nice box for them too but it'd be a bit of $$ and more to ship. They are in exellent condition and were used in an SQ setup and never abused-ran off the sub channel of a JL 500/5 which is essentially a 250/1 so they saw maybe 125rms each. sounded good doin it tho.
  8. Same scenario in "King Kong in da Trunk" By Jibbs ft Chamillionaire- they keep showin an open trunk w/ what looks like maybe 2 audiobahn 12's in some old school and thes best setup I saw was 4-L7 10's or 12's in an SUV. Just makes me laugh to see folks w/ all that $$ and even doing a song about "how you can hear em from next block" and they sho some average or weak setups. Tha L7's truthfully would prolly slump but i'm into "maximizing" your avail space. I think there was a bunch of room left over in that suv. Surely if Steve and many others can do 4-15's, 4-18's or 8-15's (Blockshaker) you could squeeze more than 4 12's in there. But i do agree that many rappers "pose" w/ some cars that arent theirs and in my eyes that hurts their image severly. A poser is a poser, even if he is my favorite rapper/artist. ~2centavos.
  9. Wow. Lookin good so far. <---learning Body work from you and GP. I've only ever messed w/ Bondo brand products and EITHER they have worked perfectly FOR ME in every application, or I have USED THEM PROPERLY/WITHIN their LIMITS, but the plastic/SEM/40/50 plastics you guys use look interesting and i guess are better quality? or just easier to work with? prolly both. I can only find Bondo or Lessor products locally but like I said they work for me every time, no complaints yet. Makes me wanna try new products tho just in case I'm missing something. Looks great and keep them pics coming.
  10. OK, I guess that SQ quote from the article is kinda in my face as far as me assuming it was not good for SQ in a 12''... but I NEVER said that about the 12. My comment was on the 18''. I would make the same "general" statement about 18's from any company. I run 12's cuz I like decent transient response and tighter, punchier bass than I have EVER HEARD from an 18" sub. That's not to say it CAN'T be done, but I've never heard it done. 12's are smaller and thus apples to apples comparison wise, the 12 will have a tighter punchier sound in the same enclosure style. Thats my preference, you guys can have all 18's you want. Not to mention the price tag. Maybe If I won one in "the next SMD raffle" after the Fi Q's, or Chicken wanted to make a charitible DONATION for a tax right off, but still, I just prefer smaller subs. Its a beast and a masterpiece/work of art, I wish I had them in my front room on display, and thus I envy Ray and Mr. Autry over there.
  11. So far I concur w/ what they^^ said. Only other thing: Consider the ambiant temp. If it's cold or humid sometimes the dry/tack time or "window" will change. It's kinda like fiberglassing or gluing, the "nicer" the weather the easier it is and generally quicker to dry. If it's cold or really humid and you gotta get the drying time down, set up some heat lamps or halogen lights, that should help. Prepping it IS key tho, clean it really well and let it dry completely before you start in on it. sometimes, if you use a paint that "skins" pretty quickly, and spray some over a layer/coat thats not dry yet you end up preventing the undercoat from fully drying and it will saty wet enough to "slough off" or "lift". Thats just from my exp. I've experienced that kind of thing w/ spray paint, undercoat, and rhinoliner too. All seems to work/fail the same.
  12. Sweet man. Like I siad I figg'd you werent gettin lazy on us...but i KNOW how the coronas be callin. I'm bout half way through flush sinkin my amps into my rear seatbacks... and I took a nap before work today instead of cutting some wood so I guess I can't be pointing the LAZY finger at anybody but me.
  13. I'll sell ya w/e u like. No type R's right now. I had 2 10's but they moved in like 10secs. What else you lookin for? I have: 2 ORION XTR 12's 2 ORION HCCA 10's 2 JL 12w3 version 1's dual 2ohm 3 pioneer premier 12's 3 Patriot Pro 12's 2 Hifonics Warrior 12's 2 Ascendant Audio Assassin 12's 2 Kicker CVR 8's 2 Boss 10's (the oversized surrounds) 2 Phoenix Gold Xenon 10's 2 Fosgate HX 2 15's dual 4ohm 1 Powerbass Extreme 12 dual 2ohm I think 1 PPI DCX 10 2 GMI Glod series 10's 2 Pioneer premier SPL5000's 2 Goldwood Ballistic 12's 1 Crossfire 12 (low end nothing awsome) 1 OLDschool Kicker comp 12 1 ASI 12 Stock 6 1/2" sub out of an RSX Stock 8"(i think) sub out of a lexus SC300 AND... If you really want them and make me a ridiculous offer: 4 Phoenix Gold Ti12d's 8 Planet Audio Vortex 10's (all dual 4ohm) ....I think thats about all of it...maybe a few i missed.
  14. X2 on the beefcakes. Lookin like that bulletproof claim might not be far off. ONE conern: No "Meade 45's" on the back wall corners? Where the sides meet the back wall, in the pic w/ the top off I didnt see any there...? I thought maybe you'd have a shot of em after the top was on, and I suspect you got a lil antsy knowin them brews were callin you but just makin sure. I would doubt you'd overlook that rear wall corner, and judging from tha airflow video (very "proving" of the importance of that "V" btw, nice job), you MAY have already got em and just skipped the pics, but we are all here to give props while all the while busting your balls, so i must pose that Q. So where da pics @? Great work as usual bro-Box lookin BEAST.
  15. "...plays damn loud on just about ANYTHING..." HAHAHA! W/ 16-12's I bet it DOES. And sealed TOO=MY-KIND-OF-SETUP! Props to that guy. <---Scurries off to convince mom to let him build a wall...or 2 in her 2003 ASTRO. I have 16 woofers...but the most that match is 8.
  16. Some of my buddies went. Got me some Soundstream swag/gear. said the audio at the place was lame as in NO BASS or at least no where near enough to be noticable in a such a large venue. I wish I could rolled but twas slangin autoparts. They said they were clowning/ jokin around saying they wished my car was there to "fill the void" I was like sheeeit, lemm give Steve a call, maybe round up the locals (Nine1Six-ers) w/ the heavy hittin SUVS and just caravan up in that bish.
  17. Jebus. I think even in a 12" that'd be pushing it for my taste...SQ gotta be RIGHT out the window...? But yea. JEBUSTITTTF*CKINCHREEBUSMAYNE!
  18. SEALED FTW! Tuned for...EVERYTHING! I'd say it REALLY depends on what kinda of tunes you like to listen to. Also, what kinda subs you using? Some subs, regardless of size can/can't handle certain tuning. I have heard from folks that sold them at a shop all the time that MASSIVE brand 15's (stage 2's i think it was) even in the 15'' size needed to be tuned "WAY HIGH"...as ported boxes go-as in around 50hz or they would just sound like ass and usually kill themselves trying to get low. Whereas ask Ray about Ascendant 8's. Ray &/or the guys at Superior sound where he worked built a box for 6-AA8's in a ported box that did a 151 on the TL and was tuned for around 40hz I believe. You can emphasize certain "tuning" by building the box a certain way (bigger/smaller/lotsa port are/very minimal port area, etc) but in the end there's a lot that goes into "hw it will sound daily".
  19. My point exactly! Compressing air is what'll win on the mic. How much air he got? CRX? or a Van? Also-How close are the subs to the mic placement? Back seats? Trunk? etc etc. More info needed to tell if it's kosher or BS. LOTS of stuff is possible. MY judgement is still out on the Tommy TL-150db /1-10" type R "record"..but I tend to be a skeptic as there is sooooo much confusiion about scores these days. I have a "regular" that comes into my shop and BS's the day away. His buddy (a total DOUCHE BTW) drives an S-10 pickup (99 i think) w/ a cut through, SEALED bed, custom paint that would be ok if he didn't try to outline the graphics in gay blue paint over his clear coat w/ something that looks like it's not even car paint... 1: He bought the ride in ok shape and has been destroying it and dirtying it's rep ever since. 2: It's a cut thru like epicenterdesigns did- box mostley in the bed and subs in the cab so the subs are right behind the seats w/ tonns of air to play with n the bed.Prolly 4-6 cubes net-so it's not huge but could be. 3: The C*ckbite claims it does a 151db on a TL. 4: Every time he "demos" it for me "the gains are not set" right and "it's too much for the box, it would blow if i turned it up more" BULL SH*T! I sat in it. Then I jumped in my car and put a 148 on my epic 160 (which we know is about -5db from a TL) AND my setup was KILLING his. Granted, his sounded just like you'd expect 2-12's in a single cab s-10 right behind the seats to sound, BUT really peaky, not musical at all AND MAYBE a 140 TL is he's lucky. MOST FOLKS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A TL is but act like they do, so as not to have their feelings/rep crushed.I see it everyday. ~2cents.
  20. "oustanding condition" meaning only one hole/tear each? pics, pics, pics my man. Lets see em.
  21. Agree here too. 1: ported...any more info on the box/setup? 2: "only 450rms" is a lot to a cvr which is rated 400rms/800max-they WILL get moving off that. 3: What's the vehicle?
  22. My choices, in order, based on personal exp: MB Quart, Infinity Kappa, Alpine TypeR, Fosgate (I have run FNP and FNX both sounded great for the $$) I would throw Focal in there but I've never tried em and on the MB quarts I must emphasize importance of a HIGHER end x over like the musicomps. Love mine.
  23. Sold him one of those HX2 15's. Prompt payment. Patient while I packed it up and figg'd out shipping. Great buyer. A+. Thanx again man, hope you enjoy the slumpage
  24. NP man! Thanks for the good review!!! I hope your house SHAKES LIKE A MOFO! hahaha. post them pics once it's all settled in too!
