  1. Did they ask you what you listen to? To me it looks like the bottom of the top left box is curved and doesn't touch the back wall (similar to the brace you can see). I guess he will find out soon enough either way.
  2. If your strapping the amps you generally have to provide a 2ohm load which you would need D2's for (with 1ohm it would result in a .5ohm final as the amps halve it). 1ohm amps need 2ohm for strap, .5ohm amps need 1ohm, etc... You then take positive sub to positive master and then negative sub to positive slave (that is generally how it works, but not always).
  3. At start 15+ settling at 14.4-14.9 is completely normal. Once the batts are close to charged or charged you will see the voltage slowly drop down, down, down. The ONLY way to change this behavior is with an MLA or VCM. If you aren't seeing this kind of behavior that I stated above are you sure you have a frame ground directly to your alt?
  4. When you say that you tried bigger and smaller, exactly how much bigger and smaller (only 1 size either way?)? How much will the belt move if you really push on it? 1/2 inch? 1 inch? 1/8th of an inch? Also remember that belts do stretch over the first week or two. If the belt seems tight, but not too tight and is brand new it will stretch out a bit and become more elastic. Only then do you know for sure if the belt is sized correctly or not. One other thing, you're sure it's your belt squealing and not the bearings in the new alt right?
  5. Whenever you are looking at installing an amp just look at the max draw, look at the stock alt, and then plan accordingly. In this case the amp's max draw is 120a so find out what his factory alt is and go from there. More than likely he will just need a yellow top up front with some 1/0 for the 3. pecifications Model AQ1200D Frequency Response 20Hz—250Hz Signal to Noise Ratio 100db Low Pass Crossover 24db / Oct Low Pass Crossover Range 20Hz—200Hz Subsonic Crossover Range 10Hz—50Hz Input Sensitivity 0.2V—8V Output Master / Input Slave Connection Yes Working Voltage 8V—16V Efficiency @ 4 ohm 84% Damping Factor Less than 150 Fuse Rating 40Amp X 3 (Linked 240 Amp) Output Power 14.4V @ 1% THD 510X1 @ 4 ohm, 870X1 @ 2 ohm, 1200X1 @1 ohm Output Power 14.4V @ 5% THD 1470X1 @ 1 ohm Dash Mounted Remote Included Dimensions 12.75″(L)x9.27″(W)x2.35″(H)
  6. I used to work with a ton of guys at Ford that worked for IBM as well
  7. I was expecting some lude Milf Hunter footage or something... Cool either way though (I've never seen one IRL)! I got this when I was living in Lauderdale (technically this was in Sunrise or something, but whatever)... Yes that is my camera, but no I wasn't holding it
  8. You pay and then they send the alternator. It's either that or you need to go get a personal loan or a credit card. I'm not trying to act like a dad or anything, but this might be the time to change your pay check to pay check habit. As you get older that habit becomes extremely dangerous.
  9. The truth of the matter is that not only is it part of their faith some people actually prefer things this way and to take that even further some of the "facts" in this video are bullshit, but what do you expect from MTV. SA has been westernizing for decades, they had to, because they spend most of their money investing in the US. The color of the Abaya is just one example of the progress being made with the hardliners. What they are talking about is no different than the olds here which think that you should wear a suit for the holidays, church, etc. Or what a priest says you can or can not do or a pastor or the 10 commandments or... I'm born and raised in Dearborn which is chalk full of Lebanese, Iraqis, and Saudis. Many of the customs that these people had carried on here (you see people that look just like the ones in this video all the time). Often times their version of more freedom is that the women need only cover their head (usually the younger generation), but the rest of their cloths are normal. There are also still extreme old schoolers who continue to wear all black. Need I also remind you that there are portions of our society which are still hardliners when it comes Christianity? They segregate, they oppress, and they force their ideals on others. Most of the "problems" that are covered in this video revolve around two facts. 1) Men can not be trusted around women 2) The Muslim religion runs the country because middle easterners more often than not do not trust themselves without a strict set of laws which are in line with their religion. There are exceptions to the rule, but prime examples of a progression to a western way of life is Lebanon who has been going through a change to a western way of living since the 70's (mainly due to so many of them immigrating here), Iran (although no one would want you to believe it), and Iraq (pre invasion). Most of the US is utterly clueless about the middle east. Am I middle eastern? Nope, but again, I grew up in and still live in Dearborn. You need to take this kind of stuff (especially from MTV as their audience is mostly kids who think they should be able to do anything they want) with a grain of salt. Most of what I saw is true, but it's slanted. Would I like to live that way? Nope... But I do respect their choices. We need to remember that while we prefer our way of life many of us could not be a hardliner in any faith with the way we live. Also is our way of life definitely better? Teenage pregnancy is through the roof, teenage alcoholics, murderers all over the place, wide spread crime, millions in prison, and the list goes on. I prefer it here, but remember what they say about glass houses... Lastly, there was a much better story on this on PBS or Nat Geo (forget which). I would advise watching that one which isn't focused around kids. NOTE: I only watched 20 minutes of it
  10. Couple things... First off HD flash on a Mac is horrible. Adobe hasn't accelerated the flash player for OSX yet. In Windows the beta builds of Flash use your GPU to accelerate flash. However, if you go to youtube.com/html5 you can opt in to the html5 beta (same process to opt out so bookmark it) and using Safari (won't work with Firefox) that is smooth as silk. If you're going to get one get a referbished Macbook instead. They come with the same warranty as a new MB and are around the same price as a loaded Mini. The Mini (and iMac) are both laptops. While they don't share the laptop form factor they share the same parts. I've used a MB part time at home for 18 months and there is no way in hell I could have "made the switch" simply because I'm in IT (well until I just got laid off) and there are just far too many programs that are Windows only. I love my MB, but the truth of the matter is you can get a faster Windows machine for far less. You also have to pay for what at times feels like everything under the sun. In order to make the switch get a copy of VMWare Fusion with your Mac. It will allow you to run Windows in a Window should you need Windows apps or launch apps directly in their own Window. While there are alternatives for all of the major apps out there on OSX, they are more expensive, less feature rich (sans video and image editing). OSX is easier to use, but that is because it is an OS that lacks the facilities to allow the same kind of customization Windows does and it does add a hefty premium to the sticker of a PC. You can't go wrong either way, but for most people the number one reason to stick with Windows (or Linux) is free and or cheap software. If you do go Mac keep an eye on http://www.macheist.com/ they have dirt cheap software bundles now and again. Considering how long carputers have been around that's like being the first person on planet earth to drive offroad in the a new black F150 Raptor...
  11. Get down here and help us unload it... I think we need to double the lengrh of the speaker wire so we can load it in the truck, it would be really awkward to load it inside the truck but I think it's doable and definitely easier than lifting them inside the box. Last night we lifted it off of a creeper and into the truck. Going from 2 inches off of the ground to 3ft and fitting 46 wide into a 47'ish wide space and in over the bumper was ridiculous... :
  12. The subs are 160lbs and the box is a couple sheets of MDF. Not sure on the exact weight, but it's heavy. It's more awkward than anything else. Thanks man, I was thinking horses as well (need to make a couple guides I guess as it's a tricky fit), but wanted to see if anyone had a trick If I was pulling the box back out to paint it I wouldn't care, but we lost a speaker wire or two on our test run so the motivation isn't as high as it normally would be
  13. After SlappinF150 (Brad) and I putting in my box last night and almost killing ourselves I was wondering what you guys use to move your box in and out of your SUV? Horses? Some kind of jack stand? I'm not looking for a daily solution as the box will live in the truck, but when it does come out it was BRUTALLY obvious that we need a better solution. Don't get me wrong, it's doable, and we did it, but there has to be an easier way and I figured someone here has more than likely tried a few options.
  14. You know what, I talked to 4 different companies when I was shopping for alts and you know who it was that spent 45 minutes with me on the phone going over all of my options (12/14/16)? Dom... Even if I didn't like his products the last thing I would do is attack a guy who spends that kind of time trying to help a guy out (me) when I wasn't even buying his alternators (I was planning on XS or Powermaster at the time). How many companies would give you the time of day when you already had an order placed for a competitors products just to help point you in the right direction? It's a free country, you can like, dislike, or hate on who you please, but making a post like this that doesn't explain what your problem is doesn't help anyone. If it were me I would explain my issue in detail so that others can benefit from my experience. That is one of the driving reasons forums are still so popular today. Great job Ed On a related note, it would be nice if the site canned the current ads in favor of some less resource intensive ones. That is actually what I thought this was going to be about... I for one never block ads on sites (adblock) that I use because they are what pays the bills.
  15. Wow man, I wonder what their Yankee's hat looks like.
  16. Useless? I suggest that the guy gets an RMA and gets someone to commit to a warranty repair before shipping it back. So instead your suggestion of not trying (because manufacturing defects do not exist with AQ) obviously makes much more sense? If he can get someone to commit to a repair under warranty and give him an RMA he will get his sub fixed for the price of shipping plus still have a year warranty left. It was a serious question not a joke. Are those butt connectors under the heat shrink? I asked because positive looks like plastic shielding and negative looks like heat shrink with a connector under it (see the two small bumps on the tinsel side?). Again, I haven't seen them outside of a box before so it's new to me, but I guess I should just keep my mouth shut because obviously AQ has a one of a kind speaker that never fall victim to shotty manufacturing.
  17. It doesn't sound fine, it's running on one coil. Your tinsel fell under the spider, you have to recone. It's possible they will warranty it, but I doubt it. Don't send it back to them without an RMA number. Make someone agree that it is a warranty repair before you spend the money on shipping. I've never seen an AQ before (outside of a box). Are those butt plugs on the tinsel?!
  18. Congrats man! I'm looking forward to the HP Slate, but keep an eye out for the MS Courier as well, it's going to look and work like a book.
  19. Often times you can configure which port does what on the sound card. Check the software for your sound card to see if it allows you to configure another port for output, if not, as others have suggested, just go get a new cheap card.
  20. Try twisting the mini plug and see if the sound changes. You might just need a new cable.
  21. A friend of mine changed his name at 25 or 26 to his mothers maiden name. I haven't seen my dad since I was 2 and he never paid child support. The thing is you actually can go after him for the money still. I had been thinking about it for years, but never pulled the trigger and he died a 2 years ago. I couldn't bring myself to do it because he had another family (I have 6 half brothers and sisters from him, but I talk to only one) and the last thing I wanted to do was to ruin their life. I'm grown and I don't need what money he did have. He literally ruined our lives when they divorced. He owned a steel company in Chicago and after the divorce he moved everything he had into his new girlfriends name. After all that was done he turned over his real books to the IRS and since he didn't have shit they came after us and took everything. While I didn't like him I never considered changing my name for two reasons. First and most importantly everyone knows me with my current name and second, like it or not, he was my father. My Dad is my step dad and even though my mom married him later in life when I was 17 he is a great guy. He was also an inspiration and full of great advice. My mom died a year ago and even though my mom is gone my step dad and I are still close. I'm sure it would make your step dad happy, but my personal opinion is it's just a name. Then again if your name was like Richard Hanler I wouldn't blame you for an excuse to change it!
