I've listened to that song for years, one of my all time favorites. It's off of their album Ride The Tempest.

Will this work if I do this to my port?
Autruche replied to Davo2378's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
if you want the box volume smaller, try extending the port to take up half a cube. then you'll have 7 cubes net, and you can take a smaller bit of port area off and get the lower tuning you want without sacrificing as much port area as you were originally going to. -
Car Alarms
Autruche replied to Dylank811's topic in Off Topic - Random, Misc posts - the forum "Junk Drawer"
Check them out online. A lot of car audio sites sell alarms, just browse and keep asking about them on here. http://www.woofersetc.com/c1/Alarms-&-Security.htm http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i27_car-security---safety.html -

Now, that's a real man. Dirty Harry in the flesh, haha. Mad respect for that man, I hope he makes a quick recovery. -

T Shirt Design Contest (free subs!!)

Designed this up a while ago. Pretty simple, but everyone I've shown it to liked it. -
How big of a difference would this make??
Autruche replied to Mr.basshead's topic in SPL - SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL
If you want to seal off your trunk, but don't want to leave any spray foam around when you want to pull it out you can put plastic wrap around where you want to spray the foam, or you can spray the foam into plastic bags and shape the foam as it expands inside the bag. As far as the recone, a more efficient sub (spl @ 1w/1m) won't necessarily be better, in some cases it can get louder on less power, and in some cases it means it will reach it's limits sooner and will not get as loud, but you'd have to do the recone to know. A recone can also change your subs characteristics and after the recone it may need a completely different box too. If you are willing to spend 120 on a recone, why don't you see what you could sell your amp for and see what power that amount of money plus the 120 could get you? -
Custom caps for a mustang pic
Autruche replied to WCA Rusty's topic in DC Sound Lab - Big Bass on ANOTHER LEVEL!
I could see that being a good option to add to your woofers. I know some people that prefer that over the standard cone and dustcap. I like the regular more, but others don't. -
Request for slowed/boosted

I figured that would happen. I couldn't find a good quality version of the song. If I can get my hands on a better copy I'll let you know. -

Transmission problems
Autruche replied to Beanz's topic in Engine and Performance - Anything for that couple extra horses!
Hmm, have you checked your fluid? it could be just low on fluid. Also check the transmission all over for cracks in the housing. If it is cracked and water got it, it's most likely done for, though a friend of mine did manage to save his. He found the crack, ground it down a bit, welded it up good and flushed the transmission, cleaned it out and replaced the filter and it was good as new. -

Autruche replied to Beanz's topic in Engine and Performance - Anything for that couple extra horses!
Well, there's your problem. But on a serious note, What kind of car? My old caravan that I had (awesome dodge auto trans) had a leak in the transmission, and it would make it sluggish and it would shift slow, I'd have to step on it to take off and my gas mileage would be murdered. Topped the trans fluid off every week and it was fine. My friend's Ford Probe (auto) had a crack in the transmission housing and water had gotten in, and it did exactly the same stuff you're describing. -
opinion on 33hz or 35hz
Autruche replied to nosho47's topic in DC Sound Lab - Big Bass on ANOTHER LEVEL!
Damn, that's a big box for just 2 xl 15s. Shoot for 6.5-7.5 cubes after displacements, 7 cubes should be good. Looking at like 120 square inches of port, should be golden. As far as tuning, if you're unsure between 33Hz and 35Hz tuning, just tune to 34Hz. It'll still get down, but sound great, musically. -
Ah, I didn't know all of the speakers were 2 ohms. The way i read it it just sounded like it was just the 6.5s that were 2 ohms. In that case I'll modify options 2, 3, and 4 for you. 2 four channel amps. Wire the 5.25s and 6x9s to their own amp. Wire the 6.5s in each door in series so they are 4 ohms, wire to their own amp, 1 door per channel. Best: 3 four channel amps. One amp for the front doors: each infinity gets it's own channel. One amp for the back doors: each infinity gets it's own channel. 5.25s and 6x9s get their own amp. 2 four channel amps. Get a nice four channel that can handle 1 ohm, like the SounDigital SD1000.4AB or the Crescendo 1000C4. Wire the 6.5s in each door in parallel down to 1 ohm. Use one amp to power all the 6.5s. Use another four channel to power the 5.25s and 6x9s. How's that for ya?

If I was right about the speakers impedances, these are ways you could wire it. #1) 1 four channel amp. Wire the 6.5s in each door in series, they will be 4 ohms then, wire them in parallel with the 4 ohm speakers, then you have 2 ohms per channel, with 3 speakers per channel. #2) 2 four channel amps. Wire the sets of 4 ohm speakers to their own amp. Wire the 6.5s in each door in series so they are 4 ohms, wire to their own amp, 1 door per channel. #3) Best: 3 four channel amps. One amp for the front doors: each infinity gets it's own channel. One amp for the back doors: each infinity gets it's own channel. All other speakers get their own amp. #4) 2 four channel amps. Get a nice four channel that can handle 1 ohm, like the SounDigital SD1000.4AB or the Crescendo 1000C4. Wire the 6.5s in each door in parallel down to 1 ohm. Use one amp to power all the 6.5s. Use another four channel to power the other speakers. #5) 2 four channels and head unit. Advise against this as it would most likely sound like ass. One amp for the front doors: each infinity gets it's own channel. One amp for the back doors: each infinity gets it's own channel. Run other speakers off the head unit.

What electrical upgrades do i need
Autruche replied to cris2216's topic in Electrical-battery- Alternators- Wiring
A mechman 270 and 3 regular batteries stays fine constantly staying at 14-14.1v at full tilt with the same power in my friends explorer. I'd say that a good HO Alternator and a good starting battery and a good second battery (xs D3400 or similar) would be fine.
