Mixing batteries isn't the worst thing you could do, but it is heavily frowned upon. The reason is, say you have a lead acid up front and a XS in back, the float voltage of the stocker up front wants to sit at 12.4V and thhe XS sits at 13.1V. The XS will slowly discharge into the stock to bring its voltage up and brings the XS down til they reach a point of equilibrium. Also, the two batteries have different modes of charging. It slowly reduces the life of the AGM batts, but by how much it damages that battery and shotens the lifespan I do not know.
