  1. Stop telling him lies! I have a free app on my android that told me my pair of 8's were doing a 160.xx at the headrest! that's obviously true and almost as accurate as my Ear-o-meter!
  2. You can do that, but you'll notice a significant amount more output with a pair. there's sort of a happy medium between too much area and too little area. too much and you could run into unloading issues and possibly over excursion too little and you're leaving a lot of output on the table.
  3. If you want to play it safe though, take an inch off your depth. it raises the tuning about 1.5 hz, but that shouldn't be very noticable.
  4. You should be fine with the same dimensions and a pair of 4" aeros.
  5. don't worry about what it looks like on sketchup when you're using aeros haha. just mark the cutouts and make sure they don't hit anything.
  6. Same dimensions, pair of 4" aeros, 23" long. leaves you a little bit more volume, which shouldn't be a problem unless you're overpowering them significantly.
  7. You forgot to add sub and bracing displacement, but that shouldn't throw it off too much. the side port should be fine. I'm assuming this is going in a coupe/sedan? what amp are you using?
  8. I don't remember much about this one, since it was done a while ago, but i'm pretty sure i didn't do more than 1.75 cubes net. In fact i'm pretty sure that it was between 1.5-1.75 cubes net. I could see the sub folding from back pressure, but I don't see how a puncture wound would show up in just that one spot. i'd imagine the cone of a subwoofer is pretty uniform in strength all the way around.
  9. Looks good. a tad large, but shouldn't hurt anything. take plenty of pics of this build!
  10. I wouldn't use Joe X's suggestion either. He still hasn't proven that he knows what he's doing. he pretty much just copy's and pastes everything.
  11. naw, i'd say 13 to 14 at most. if you want to tune low it's gonna be harder the more port area you have. you don't have a whole shitton of power going to them, so there's not a lot of need for the extra port area.
  12. Subs won't make much of a difference in noticable sound quality. especially since this is your buddies first system. just find a sub in your budget that fits your needs. it's the box that's gonna determine how it all sounds.
  13. Move the sub away from the port opening inside the box. closer to where it opens on the other side of the box
  14. are you kidding?? the zv.3 will take 2k no sweat. 3 and a quarter net, MAYBE. you're choking it at 3 cubes. that's for sure.
  15. oh dear... why did it take so long to catch that mistake. i'd give the sub at least 3.5 cubes. shrink the port down to 15-16 per cube so you can get more volume. i hate to see such a nice sub go in a shitty box. PM me if you have any further questions or need further assistance.
  16. well you're gonna find out one way or another, so asking the question was somewhat pointless.
  17. Your logic baffles me... I'd be more than happy to help make sure you have a nice box design. But i can't really help now since you're already building a box that you're not sure of. In the future, ask questions before proceeding unless you're sure you know what you're doing.
  18. A single SA-8 has hit a 151.2 i believe. but that was on an NS-1 for like a couple second burp lol. it had an aluminum coil too, which i think isn't available to the public. don't quote me on that though. doesn't mean anyone's gonna hit that on music with just one.
  19. never used a prefab box, never will also that e12dtv box isnt close to 4 cubes, its 3.9 gross before any port or woofer displacment, in all reality that box is 1.25 cubes per chamber. I wish i could say i never used prefab lol. all prefab is shit, aside from sealed if it's proper volume. even then it's cheaper to make your own.
  20. Customer is stupid. your box is fine. just don't bet him the box works on one of those "we'll replace it if it breaks" deals he'll clip them to all hell and demand new woofers. soooo yeah, have him come on here and quit spewing his bullshit
  21. the L port is 3 common walls in torres. physical port length IS the length of that L. RE doesn't account for any displacements. and is overall very inaccurate compared to Torres.
