Yes and no. I use FL exclusively for everything I do. Bass Remixes, Dubstep, and the other stuff I do if you're familiar with any of it. Out the box FL is very user friendly, my dude. YouTube has 1000's of videos of beat making with FL Studio depending on the genre you want. You should seat the beat grid when you first open FL. See where the pen is pointing? Pretty much just click those little boxes to add in the notes. Start with a simple kick snare loop. Open Sytrus, find a Synth and open in new channel. Right Click, open piano roll and play some notes. Click to place. You can adjust size and what note with the mouse. It's a CONSTANT learning process, I think of new shit to try every day. Definitely a lot to take in at first but it'll slowly come to you. If you like the product, definitely buy it. Image-Line deserves it, I love their shit.

2 cubic feet per 12" sounds about right. and 38-40hz will sound loud on anything above 40hz. So techinically the sales rep was right. I personally would run 4 cubic feet tuned to 30hz.

Just hook up the cap. It's not a hindrance, plus you get to use the voltmeter. Pics of said cap could aid in it's dissassembly.

I would do double cone area as this allows you to have more surface area to dissapate heat if you plan on pounding on it for a long time. Say hypothetically, you will see the EXACT same gain from either or, the double power set-up is going to have to dissipate 4x the heat as the double cone area set-up.
