Happens every time there is a full out system up for grabs such as this month. There is usually even more when the big man puts up a video of it on his channel. Ahh.. shocked there isn't a required amount of time you have to be here before being able to enter. I had asked Steve about that before too, or I posted it in a status and he commented on it... But to sum it up, as long as the people are contributing members to the forums, he doesn't mind have new-comers run. A lot of them are one post wonders that say "nominate me", and are never heard from again. Then there's the people who join, read the rules, self nominate, don't win this month, but contribute to the forums in hopes of having a shot again the following month. But yes, we do get a lot more activity when Steve makes the announcements on facebook, twitter, and youtube. Especially when it's Kicker gear.
