  1. here we go again, lol, comes down tp budget and preference really. most prefer mdf due to its cheaper and performs well, but birch gains about 30% in weight savings and usually about 40% more expensive.
  2. when while looking at a new vehicle, space for system in your top 3 considerations
  3. i think my chevelle would be a good candidate for this... ill get a vid done over the weekend and send it your way!
  4. greatest guys in the world to work with right here, called them up and told them about the faulty pulley, immediately sent one out to me no questions asked.
  5. Use a router and route out an area the size of the rod so it's countersunk into the wood, then predrill and screw it through the bottom and you will be good to go
  6. so i was running the car at idle in my garage to charge my batts since i was about to hook up the HU and finally be able to play it. suddenly, i heard a clanking noise(something hitting the ground) so i immediately cut the motor off and went to see what was the issue. this is what i found... looks like the pulley either broke straight off in a clean manner or separated at the point that its pressed together(not sure how they are made)
  7. I know i'm in the minority, but i only use my router for the same things you mentioned, and I just bought a cheap ryobi at hd. 20+ boxes and still going strong.
  8. what size subs are you thinking about mounting there? if you are trying to put your subs in the same spot your old deck was, they better be some 8s or MAYBE 10s because most decks arent that deep. if you are just wanting to cut it and still leave the subs on a box in the trunk, i dont see that much gain to be had versus just porting through the deck. i jsut did this to my 69 chevelle over the weekend, port firing up through the rear deck. tapeing the pattern underneath the deck... piece that was removed... view from above, still have a beauty ring that has to be installed to cover the edges
  9. for that price range, i say definitely check out the knukonceptz kits, they have some of the biggest wire i have ever used, even have to trim the 1/0 a bit to get it to fit into 1/0 fittings. that being said, i've always been a huge fan and user of kicker 1/0, just my preference tho and you can get 20' rolls of it on sonic electronix for eighty bucks
  10. i have never weighed it, but i would guess a 4x8 birch sheet weighs about 70% as much as the same sheet of mdf edit: ^^^ damn, close for a guess
  11. ive used both mdf and birch, and money aside, the birch is the way to go. much lighter, and in my experience cutting it puts off a LOT less sawdust, maybe not important to everyone, but i like my garage clean haha
  12. makes perfect sense, and i think the first thing they try to determine, like mentioned before, is the resonant frequency of the vehicle, then design a box that has a favorable response curve for the tuning of the box and rf of the vehicle
  13. i second to pay the man, he worked out a tough design for me and it went together like clockwork. good guy to deal with and definitely knows what hes doing
  14. cool. just test it out and see what you get... make the changes reversable so if it doesnt work out you can take them out and tweak it until you get it where you want it.
  15. with the way the box is put together, i wouldnt imagine they are unloading but its always possible. to me it sounds like the box may be a bit on the big side for the power they are getting, or could simply be(though not likely by looking at the build log), that the box is not as air tight as should be.
  16. thanks again bro, have fun with it
  17. good 1/0 isnt cheap, that being said i have used knukonceptz and had good results from them, but i still prefer kicker 1/0 over all others, just my opinion. if you want kicker, sonic electronix has 20ft rolls for eighty bucks and thats enough in a lot of cars for one run and grounds, just need a fuse holder
  18. yes, the engines rumble has its own sexy sound, but nothing feels quite like bass haha. thanks ryan for working with me on this one, i got all the cuts made today and hope to start assembly tomorrow
  19. per foot, yes, far more expensive, at least on the kicker. may as well get the whole kit
